Many personal finance blogs I read say that your house/rent should not be more than 25%-30% of your take home pay.
After taxes my monthly take home pay is $2400. Which would mean that hypothetically speaking I shouldn't be paying more than $600-$700/month on rent or a mortgage. That amount doesn't even include cable or utilities.
Rent in my area for a one person apartment is easily over $1,200/month and a mortgage for a small condo in the decent areas of town aren't much cheaper.
However, according to Wikipedia the median income for a single person household is like $47,000/year.
How are people affording to live and maintain a house?
I'm single and in my mid-20s... will I ever be able to afford to live by myself realistically if I stay right around this income level?
30% rule is outdated. In the old days before mortgages went up it was like this.
Thank boomers.

>OP discovers boomers have created walls to keep the youth away from them. What do you think public schools are for? Education? kek. Either move to Vietnam like a normal digital nomad or ride the boomer wageslave tiger and hope you get lucky and eventually possibly retire.
Josiah Torres
A lot of people are living in the same apartment/house. 600-700 for 2 people is $1,200-1,300 in rent per month.

One word: boomers
Anthony Bell
Well, even if I don't make very much, I think it's counter-intuitive to live in a fucking ghetto with a bunch of criminals who just make your life harder.
Jack Davis
Ok its actually untrue and I'm bullshitting, the boomers have nothing to do with it.
Jeremiah Moore
it's not that bad, most people assume the hood is like Gran Torino. I live in the hood and it's mostly black people and polish people. The blacks watch anime and play a lot of smash bros. The only crime i've seen is based crime like people trashing cop cars
Colton Allen
Um yes they do? They passed all these pro immigrant laws letting millions of shitskins mexicans and chinks come in and work h1b visas, driving up the price of housing in the cities and for them its great because their $60,000 house they bought in 1972 appreciated 1000% even though now their kids will never be able to buy a home
Nicholas Gutierrez
You're an idiot. Try living in the "hood" in my city. Car break ins/stolen rims are a NIGHTLY occurance
Chase Torres
>because their $60,000 house they bought Because demographics

Get some to move in so you can share the rent you mook or get married to some bimbo that works. If all else fails hold splice that you can just commit suicide after 3 years retirement and all your funds drained.
Elijah Allen
well yeah that's the city. You're retarded even if you live in nice parts of the city, humans become stressed and violent when surrounded by that many people. Plus it makes you callous so committing crimes is much easier. I used to steal rims all the time in New York, it's easy as fuck and most of the people you steal from are Jews so you're like robin hood in a way.
Lucas Cox
I don't think it's a good idea to live in the same neighborhood as people who steal rims and justify it as "well they might be jews, so I'm kinda like robinhood"
James Nguyen
It's not supposed to be after taxes.
Ayden Walker
Or he can move back in with his family and work together to pool resources and build family wealth.
Mason Long
I didn't live there I lived in Connecticut and would just drive up to NY weekly and steal rims. There's chat groups that share photos of cars to hit and where they park and when. There's a whole community. People who live in cities are begging for it. Also every rich person knows only fags like showing off their wealth and deserve to have it stolen from them, they're choosing to display it, that's a declaration of war on the poor, so the poor will respond by taking it. It's like a baby holding out his pacifier in front of an angry dog.
Caleb Turner
that's what I do now. took a while to convince my boomer parents to let me move back in.

who cares about what boomer soccer mom thinks you should pay. if u want money you should open a business or invest, not work. Working is what people do to survive. You can't afford living with a job, just survival.
Ian Collins
Working is the only practical way to gain capital in order to build up an investment portfolio though.

I just want to retire early and play video games

Take home pay is £3500/month Mortgage is £200/month
What the hell is wrong with americans
Brandon King
Get as many roommates as you need to make it work. I knew a dude that bought a condo he couldn't afford, but shared the place with 3 other people.
Austin King
what's your home worth

Americans compete with the earth for their real estate... Especially in Cali and NY
Gavin Lopez
With that principle/rule, my mortgage should be 5k per month, lol
Robert Adams
1200 rent. Fucking move out then, i pay 600 mortgage in my decent area
Asher White
Median household income is like 55k, no way the average person makes 47k
