I make 75k in nyc. Is that good enough to not feel like a loser? Shits expensive here man. Should I demand more money? My field brings in a lot of $$$$
I make 75k in nyc. Is that good enough to not feel like a loser? Shits expensive here man. Should I demand more money...
Damn
he is t. courier
What do you do?
It's hard to just 'demand more money' at your current job. I've done it, had it not work out. It kind of damages your work image.
Best bet is to suck it up at the job for at least 2 years, learn or improve your skills, then find a new job in your same field. In that new job, negotiate a salary that is 10 to 25% more than your old job. Getting a new job is the only real time you have power in negotiating your salary. Then, every 2 to 3 years, rinse repeat until you max out or are happy with your salary.
take commuter train from Jersey. A lot of the smaller towns are super nice and affordable. Save money
I work for a dermatology surgeon practice with 3 surgeons that excise skin cancer. I process the removed margin of skin onto a microscope slide for margin clearing. It’s skill based and not everyone can do my job well, and it’s very difficult to find somebody to replace me. Some places offer 1000$ per day per diem
If you can find another job that pays you more, and money is a major concern for you, why not swtch jobs then?
Only thing to be wary of if you have a lot of sub 2 year jobs on a resume, the patern starts to look bad to future employers. Once or twice isn't as bad though, especially if they're spaced kind of apart, and from a while ago.
I’ve been here 2.5 years. It’s just so expensive to live comfortably here and I know they could pay me more
Then what are you afraid of? Go get the job.
Another strategy, once you get a new job offer on the table you can go to your current job and see if they'll match the salary. At this point you have to 100% prepared to leave though.
>he’s not a software engineer
>he doesn’t have recruiters begging him to take $120k jobs on LinkedIn
Sucks to be you OP
Software engineering is slave labor desu I would hate being at a screen all day. That shit drains you.
That’s actually hard work though
>tfw I only make 67k living in Denver
Could be worse right?
What do you do, user?
I only make 30K a year in NYC. Please give me a job user.
I work for a Construction Management firm
what neighborhood? 75k is tough for manhattan.
i make 95k but still have to live in east harlem to save any money ($1200/mo on rent, jdimsa).
I can't get any packages delivered unless I'm home since people will steal them, and constantly have to dodge dope fiends around the subway
Jesus how the fuck do you survive. Makes me feel bad about thinking my life sucks and I’m poor!
I live in Stamford and commute to manhattan. My rent is 1700 but metro north ain’t cheap. I hate the subway. I walk to work. I might move closer.
East Harlem isn't that bad, every apartment I've been in there was dogshit though.
I make 86k/year in Eastern PA, get to see friends in NY and Philly but also have much lower cost of living. Still, housing or rental in the Northeast anywhere is nosebleed levels compared to the South.
If i made my current income in any area that’s not expensive af I would do great independently. I know they need me a lot at work and I’ve been there a while so I’m really trying to demand more money, like at least 85k
>this nigga lives in the city
You could do more with 40k in the country than you could with 75k in New York
pretty weak desu, median household in Denver is closer to 80k which means you're in like the 40% percentile. could be worse though you could live in Aurora
>I live in Stamford and commute to manhattan
>purposefully living in an area designed for rich old white NYC executives who make $200k who want to send their kids to great public schools instead of the nigger infested filth in NYC
Why would you do this to yourself? You might as well just live in a studio in Manhattan at that point, cost will be similar to 1700. You would do much better in NJ or Queens.
>I make 86k/year in Eastern PA, get to see friends in NY and Philly but also have much lower cost of living
70k/year for me in central NJ. It's boring as shit but I'm saving so much money compared to living in NYC or Philly
Yeah I hate this place making me wanna kms.
Stop being a cuck and start advertising yourself to potential employers that’ll pay you better coin. Fuck your current employer. You got to do whatever is best for yourself.
If you really want to stay because you are a cuck with stockhome syndrome then ask them for more money, if they brush you off then man up and leave.
It sounds like you have Jewish bosses that are taking advantage of you if you can get paid $1,000.00 a day doing your kind of work.
So move then faggot. You'll have a better commute and will have more savings.
Hi fellow histofag
They pay 12k tuition a year so I might just utilize that and get a BA in something and then peace it??
Hello!
I do MOHS. Was originally taught standard path lab and special stains and all that.
I almost took a MOHS job. I like the fact that most of the time you get to work solo, but cutting frozens all shift didn't seem as appealing.
>tfw make 30/hr as analytical chemist in nj with toxicology degree
wat do bros
It’s easy. Most of my day is just sitting around. Frozen is hard for a lot of people though. I find working regular path is like a factory. I don’t work solo so it’s kinda cushy, but I’d prefer I was alone. We have a couple per diems that really suck
30/hr is comfy but you'll never truly be rich off that. is there any room to move up in that field?
Into management if you're in corporate. Idk i feel like my only hope is dumping into crypto since it seems we're pretty much at the bottom
To be fair, I am fresh out of college and living alone. So taking this into account, i'm better off than most people in my position it seems.
How many hours do you usually work a week?
On paper 37.5 but I only work till the job is done. Some days it’s only 3 cases and others it’s like 12. Some patients go 5+ stages as well but that’s rare.
Fellow NYCfag checking in. I make $150k/year and I feel poor idk how you can survive on 75k
What the fuck. Are you homeless?
Don't be such a dramatic little bitch. You can do just fine on 150k unless you're a "foodie" who thinks going out to eat 5x/week is just "part of being a milennial". Of course you could do better elsewhere, but you also probably wouldn't be making 150k elsewhere...
I make $50k here and can pay the bills so you're doing okay compared to me.
Not bad. Work at a large clinical lab in the Midwest and make around 68k
Do you have a HTL? I'd ask for a raise. I've noticed salaries are really inconsistent throughout the country. It's a weird field.
>tfw sales engineer
>tfw barely need to know shit about software and get paid more than software engineers to travel around doing consulting work and writing off everything as a business expense
Life is good
