I'm making 70k right now as a software engineer. I am going to save as much as possible and FIRE the hard way.
>plan is work for exactly 8.5 years then quit >live with parents (talked over this with them, they are cool with it since I am going to help them around the house in their old age and help with bills now) >sock away 2k every month (other 2k goes to transportation, food, student loan payments, internet bill, mobile bill, investments and whatever emergencies come up / help parents with other bills >will save over 205k projected over the time am working, probably more with raises - instead of buying own house, i will live in childhood home after i quit >currently have 50k student loans, will be about 15k by the time i quit since I am paying it, no credit card debt or other debt >taking loans off the pile i will have some 190k left >will live lean FIRE as fuck only paying for baseline internet, phone, food and emergencies >NEET forever
When parents die, I will probably just let the rest of the savings get sucked up by property taxes and utility bills, then sell the home and buy a new much smaller home outright for half of my proceeds. And use the other half to continue to pay property taxes and utilities and stuff, until I'm old. Social security is of course a meme but who knows what they'll have at that time, probably government forced euthanasia so I'm not worried.
Obviously I won't have any health insurance or luxuries but I will get to decide to do whatever I want with my days, learn things online, take walks, lift, play old vidya backlog and read. Will definitely miss some of the finer things in life, but I guess having your free time is really a lot more valuable than a lot of expensive bullshit. There is a big risk I may fail in my goal but I am thinking of supplementing with occasional freelance programming, selling my stuff / old collectibles, and any crypto gains that come my way.
just "sock away" that 2k per month into BTC and quit in 3 years

I don't play like that, son. 2scary4me
I'm considering doing $250 BTC, $250 ETH, $500 VTSAX and $1000 in savings account though

>8.5 years Slow lane ass motherfucker Meanwhile I >1 year slavery > 10k cash 10k crypto > Immediately leave USA > water my product based business and SAAS business > free man at 24
My plan is superior. 0 risk is for betas

I make 60k as a chemical engineer working in a civil engineering company doing DAX and SQL coding... job market is a fucking mess man.
I'm unironically putting 2k a month into small cap dude weed stocks. I'm 24 so if it goes dot com bust on me I'm young enough to just let it go to zero and write it off as a learning experience, if it works I double my 30k stack and move the profit into safer dividend stocks.
Besides that I'm gonna live at home for at least another 5 years, should have 150k book value in the market by then, fingers crossed market value will be high enough that I can dump some bags and buy a house when the mighty reconning happens.

Your ability to stick with this plan is hugely dependent on your relationship with your parents and how stable your home life is there. For me, every penny is worth paying for a space of my own. I get to be naked whenever I want, shit on the floor if I feel like it, and experience taking home a woman and fucking her brains out on my couch. Nothing like being young and on your own, even if you only do a 1 year lease.

Every parent want grandkids, if they ever give you a real hard time about it you can just make it clear to them that the point of your whole plan is to be able to start and support a family in this fucked up economy.
Even if they hate you they're likely to let it slide if they see a common goal.

Not meant to be a shitpost.
You are making 70k right now, but thats stupid low for a SWE.
YOE? I hire guys at the Senior level (ranging from 3 to 10 YOE), all making between ~150k TC and ~350k TC.
You should set your sights higher. Two, you should consider moving out at time point - it helps you develop as a person/adult, gives you a great insight into who you are and in turn will help you expand horizons beyond just work and simple FIRE'ing.
Just food for thought.
(Note: Not in the SF Bay or NYC area either, so this isn't some unattainable compensation in some HCOL)

If you think BTC is more risky than USD, measure the lows from year to year....put your cash to work for you in appreciating assets rather than just sitting in a bank.
especially now, i'd say we bottomed at 3k and will have a few weeks/months of action between 50 and 200 MA before BTC goes full bull mode.
maybe to $500 BTC, $500 ETH, $500 VTSAX and $500 savings
