I can't see a situation in which any of the other privacy coins that currenty exist will ever usurp Monero as the best pure privacy coin, so let's get that out of the way first. Maybe something else comes out down the road that does everything better than Monero without the compromises and shortcuts the other alt privacy coins make but until then Monero is king.
From a speculative standpoint it's hard to say that Monero will ever escape bitcoin's gravity. It depends on so many factors. We'll know more over the next few years as emissions taper off whether it can breach the .03 ceiling it's hit against several times. Should also be noted that it's held at roughly .01 like six fucking times so it's a pretty safe bet that you really aren't going to lose many sats at this point buying and holding Monero.
