'Merlin' is the online handle of a Bitfinex executive (most likely Giancarlo Devasini). Bitfinex used a Panamanian company called Crypto Capital to process their fiat desposits/withdrawals when Bitfinex didn't have any banking connections.

Nothing wrong with this, except if Bitfinex couldn't get banking connections, how could Crypto Capital? What makes them different? Virtually no bank in the world today touches crypto businesses unless you can prove to the bank that you will vet the shit out of any perspective client.

Since Crypto Capital worked with other exchanges and organisations, Merlin was trying to secure credit so that they could send users their withdrawals.

Go on Jow Forumsbitfinex and search for 'withdrawal delay'. There are posts from users who complained about not receiving withdrawals even after 60 days. Did they even get it in the end?
