Quite enjoyed Wolf of Wall Street, but it's a bit divorced from most people's realities

It's going to $0.000 so don't worry too much

I want to make money, however I lack selling skills, I despise it because I think salespeople have to be inherently dishonesty. Am I doomed to wagecuck?

The best salespeople are more like consultants. They do not sell unless the product is the right fit for the client. If you try and force the product on the customer, especially in the SaaS field, you will get churn, which will tank your numbers. Think of yourself as a trusted adviser.

This.

As a salesman, you try to sell value to people, not a price. That's how you convince them.

I don't know why people don't go into sales more. It's the best way to learn business, you get reward for effort, and the potential earnings are huge. Some of the guys I know are pulling in 500 to 600k a year

My experience begs to differ. At least in latino or Spanish culture, the highest selling personnel are those who lie the most. I tried selling mobile plans to people, acting as you mention, explaining any detail, calming down concern, downplaying a bit the negatives.... could not sell one plan in one month knocking doors every day full time.maybe I just suck at it. Would never try again. But you could be right

they're not right, but the truth is in their posts: the best salespeople convince *themselves* they provide real value. this lets them peddle their service with authenticity, and that earnesty sells even if the underlying product is the average overpriced solution
if you're too intelligent and not psychopathic, you will never be able to be a good salesperson

I suppose it depends on what you're selling. For B2C, or selling widgets, then you're not overly concerned about the customer beyond getting their money. For repeat business, or B2B, it absolutely matters. You want to be able to farm the client for money time after time.

The product doesn't get sold unless it solves a need. It may not be the perfect solution, but it may cover 80% of what a customer needs, and that's good enough. They're left in a better place than where they were before.

Ok... in fact I settled for one particular company to sell because it was the best and cheapest option, I had it myself, however I could not conviene myself that the downsides were real and I had to make up excuses for them ie: fixed term contracts. all mobile companies in Europe are out to get you, no doubt about that. I tend to think not everyone can excerpt that small level of mythomania.... change my mind, I’m sick of cuckwaging!

I have a different experience. I sell fitness machines. Usually, people come to me and ask for what they can get with their budget. First thing, I agree with them. Then, I ask them a lot of questions about how many people will use it, how often, if they're in a house or in an apt, etc... They give me all the info. And then, I briefly explain why they should prioritize comfort above pricing because every machine you see on Craigslist and Co are from people who bought a price. They bought something that doesn't fit their needs and so, they end up angry and not doing sports ever again.

It's a win win situation when I try to convince them that value overwrites price. Because nobody wants to pay 400€ for a machine that'll end up being in a garage after 3 months and will eventually be replaced, whereas a 600€, or 700€ or more machine will survive longer in time, resulting in less probability of customer service.

It works very often because people ultimately think they remain in control of the situation. I never look into their budget because it's usually a totally arbitrary thing that'll evolve with the proper explanations.

But there are obviously perma tards that'll buy a 150€ machine for 6 hours per week use despite them knowing that it will breaker sooner or later. There's no need to talk to these, they're nothing but a source of problems.

how do you even make money, literally sat on your computer all day every day trying to catch knives?

Also, it's a bit more complicated than this but you get the general idea.

All I'm trying to say is : the sell I try to sell, the more I actually sell. Because people hate you when you try to jew them out. But really do love to tell you about their needs. The less you talk about the actual price, the more they'll follow you on your arguments. They'll put a price limit themself anyway.

Also, never ask them if they have a budget. Never ever ever do that. Never.

He doesn't.

This. The more they tell you about their own needs the better, and people love to talk about themselves. Honestly often the most tiring part of the job is the active listening you have to do.

>says make money from trading altcoins
>talks on about like he's selling a customer a ferrari

Motherfucker what you smoking cos you making like 0 sense..calling bullshit.

Plus I hate the idea of being sat at a computer all day baisically gambling for a solid 12 hrs, how the fuck is it any different to wage cucking, except you may make some money in 12 hrs, or you may lose alot.

fuck

that.

Thanks. One thing I am good at selling is used guitars and amps. I have a particular, american oriented kind of taste, so I sell items hard to find in Europe. However Europe means no freedom, big fish eats the small. But online stores sell online and everyone has the right to return anything until 30 days, no questions asked. So I usually end up selling to small loss but unless I put low prices NO ONE even starts to ask for anything. Haha god I suck at selling

This could be because buying online is much more spontaneous than in retail.
I know my products and I'm seen as an expert before being a salesman (despite knowing only little bits about my stuff). But people are reassured when they talk to be about their needs. They want to put a face on the brand. It eases them in a way, despite me not giving a shit about my company.

It is indeed very different online. I came from web marketing and left because of all the open space and general leftism PC bullshit (but that's another story). People have a need to see an expert when they are willing to spend huge amounts of yuros.

>if you're too intelligent and not psychopathic, you will never be able to be a good salesperson

THIS.

I know plenty of sales guys, highly successful... there's something missing behind their eyes. You can't even have a normal conversation with them about anything, it's always this smarmy attempt to butter you up and repeat stock encouraging phrases.

But there's something compelling about them, some kind of charisma that can't be resisted.

100% correct. That being said, getting out of my comfort zone and actually trying to give a shit about people greatly improved my social skills. I greatly recommend it to anyone a bit too introverted. It helped me way more than therapy.

> I'm too intelligent so I can never be a salesperson

Some of my best friends are customers. If you look at a person as a number, people aren't stupid, and they can sense that and be repelled by you. One of the first books I read starting out was How to Win Friends and Influence People. 80 years old, but still a great book. You have to have empathy in this job, and be good with people or you won't be successful

Charisma has nothing to do with being smart or psychopathic.

>Charisma has nothing to do with being smart or psychopathic.

I wouldn't claim it does, in particular. It's very tricky thing to define but some people have it and some don't.

The trick is to actually try and sell things because you think the person buying will want/like what they're buying.

Lying or being dishonest is the worst way to retain sales and only works in the most bargain-basement retail environments that encourage fucking over customers because the majority of customers will never return.

do you offer online services? asking for a friend

Nice work, use Sharepoint ourselves

Good thread guys. I sell water treatment systems to facilities that get sued by environmental groups. I also co-mingle with environmental groups, tell them how valuable their work is, and sponsor them. It's gotten to the point where they will sue a facility and tell the facility to talk to me for a $200,000 treatment system

I have never ever heard of anything more sneaky.

Hahaha, amazing. Do the facilities not know what you're doing?

thank god I found you guys. I'm 24 and I've never had any job experience (it is hard to get any decent job in the 3rd world unless you have connections). Now there is this guy who my father privetly had tutored him to university, taught me how to use my first PC, played games with me even though I was a kid. 10 years later he comes back to see my dad for gratitude, says that he had different entrepreneurship experiences from music production to designing companies. He is now the director of an aluminum company that prepares doors for constructions (there will be an expansion to other product lines in future). He told me to prepare a sales plan for doors which orders dictate doors production. The company does have a few old salespeople but he is not satisfied. I assumed he wants a sales department which works like an american startup. If he likes my strategy he will make me sales director with percentage benefits. I have a useless degree in business administration with a finance major, but I know business lingo and terms. Any suggestions?

Just one : don't lie to people, don't care too much, and don't take criticism personally. Learn to be professional on the outside, and to not give a fuck on the inside.

Nice pieces of advice, he told me similar things. Any advice or examples on how to plan sales strategy and execution?

Really enjoyed that one, way better than expected

Salesmen are an enemy of the working class. kill yourselves

I used to work as a door-to-door salesman for charities for 2 years, was very talented, made company records and all.

I don't have much of a formal education but I am clever and know how to bullshit. Also speak 5 languages fluently, I'm sure that helps.

What type of sales job should I look for?

Any degrees easy to bullshit? Not like sales employers care as long as you get the job done.

Suckers for a good laugh.

Your integrity is key. As mentioned above, don't lie to people, your reputation will follow you around. With regards to sale strategy you need to identify your market, who will be buying your doors? Why *your* doors? Who are the key contacts? Is there trade shows, trade events you can go to and/or exhibit at? Network is everything, who do you know, or who does your dad know? How are you going to reach people? Is it going to be cold calling or through a distributor? Find sales partners, maybe guys who aren't selling what you are but have something complementary to it, like windows guys. Just a couple of thoughts.

Five languages? Go to LinkedIn/Salesforce/Apple, they're crying out for language skills. Emphasise your past selling history and exhibit a willingness to learn. You'll probably start out cold calling but if you did door to door that's no issue.

Salesmen keep companies afloat and employees getting paid. In businesses worldwide cashflow is king. Without somebody out there selling there wouldnt be any growth or sustainability in the job market or the wider economy. Salesmen are capitalistic oil

>R&D and SWE

>Just kinda stumbled around and went where I could live nearby friends
Like everything else in my life, the gods seem to favor me even though I'm just 'tarding and 'tisming around the place not knowing wtf I'm doing. My friends carry me socially and I just do good research and code for fun - no initiative to interact with companies etc.

Attached: 1529821844294.jpg (479x479, 15K)

Yes but I really don't have the motivation to hustle like door-to-door or cold calling, I'm not 19 anymore.

I hear there is a lot of money to be made in IT sales, SaaS and stuff like that, where you already have the customers, but need to accommodate their needs and guide them.

How would I go about getting into that?

Go look at their websites, you'll want Business Development Representative or Account Executive roles. If you've no prior experience you'll have to suck it up for a bit. Emphasise your language skills, and if you're "diverse" they'll be all over you. Amazon Web Services can't hire enough people at the moment.

>being a salescuck
just lmao at your life. Im a copywriter aka I do salesmanship in print. while you fags knock on doors and have face-to-face interactions I just sit in my comfy room, piece together promos and get paid a fortune to do so. do you even leverage? my promos go out to lists of hundreds of thousands of people and bring in millions for my clients while you work on one prospet at a time lmao. take the copywriting pill you faggots.

Post payslip

Thanks for the advice mate.

Do you think I have a chance for a good paying sales job with only a high school degree?

Or better to lie about my degree? I learn fast and could bullshit my way through it I imagine if I take a month or two to study.

Or do you think it is better to go back to uni? It is free in my country, but I am really not a fan of pointless studying, I prefer doing.

What exactly is copywriting? Been hearing a lot of people talking about it.

I heard many people say it is the burger flipping of the digital world, it that false?

Seems like something that will soon get oversupplied with Indians and wages will crash.

Why not interview for a few roles and see what they say? Give them a sob story about having to leave school early to provide for your family, Microsoft have a program for people for non traditional backgrounds

Because I live in Switzerland and sob stories like that are not possible because of our welfare system.

And here nobody cares about stuff like that, there is no diversity hiring crap.

But thanks for the advice I will apply for a few roles and see what they say.

Can you tell more about this?

Sure, it's Microsoft's LEAP program. Think it's more for coders though

I see 2 current Account Managers vacancies in Geneva on the Amazon Web Services site at the minute. Account managers are farmers though, they keep the clients you already have

Based user.

I predict it will be hard getting in without a degree though, especially at a place like amazon they won't give my cv a look.

how do you even get into something like sales? if I were to quit my deadend job to pursue a career in sales where would you even begin?

how's the entg discord lately?
haven't been for like months,
unless you're a different copywriter user

Obvious choice would be to start as door-to-door or cold calling jobs in your area. They hire anybody with a brain, but you will not make it unless you are motivated and talent.

Make sure you are selling an actually good product though, or you are doomed to fail.

You can make good money with no degree if you are good, but need to be quick witted, good at argumenting and have low morals. Especially having low morals desu.

Link to discord?

was just thinking of posting a thread like this yesterday.

>Your industry: Payroll/HCM
>Your comp: 47k base, commission+ bonuses 100k
>Years in the job: 3
>How you got there: was a sales internship when my current company reached out via email. Got the job and been killing it every since.

It is true anons, sales is you running your own business. Corporate politics exists but if you are a top performer then you pretty much run the show. I'm in my mid 20s and never thought of the life I have now being a possibility. I'm in inside sales but I come in when I want and leave when I want. My boss needs me more than I need the job to be honest. I might leave soon though for higher pay somewhere else.

Any fellow user have any suggestions?

Exactly this.

All the sales job I worked in the boss was my bitch, I could do whatever the hell I wanted as long as I performed. There was no kissing ass to superiors and following useless rules.

First non-sales job was a hell of a wake up call kek.

What exactly do you sell mate and how do you go about it? What did you study?

Yes, salesmen make their own rules and in sales, cash is king. Is it shallow? Yeah sure, but it's the one true job where the harder you work the more you make and you create your own career path. Company not giving you what you want? Fuck em, go to a company that will.

I sell payroll and human resource tools to businesses over the phone. You basically have to not give a shit about the rejection and make a game out of it. Seriously, every call is like grinding in any RPG. The more you do the more business you find.

I just studied marketing in school with the intention of going straight to sales. Your first sales job, degree won't matter. If you have drive and are not autistic, they will hire you. Don't get me wrong I'm a fully functioning autistic myself.

My first day open I had $1000 total liquid cash to my name. The one thing I really had going for me other than that was that I had practically 0 overhead. Moved in with parents while I was getting the ball rolling. I paid taxes on 100K US for 2018. Past years were better however as along with gold we purchased gift cards, which ended up being terribly lucrative for a period. Flunked out of a college in a drug fueled rage. Show me where the sales guy touched you. Did he overpwomise?

Anything to make a fucking sale. I work in networking and security where its really easy for salesmen to be vague on the details because "our boys are smart and can figure it out". Meanwhile, I'm left holding the bag in front of the customer telling them that they just wasted $500k on a bullshit solution their rep sold them.

Sorry bro. I always consult with our tech dudes to see if what the client wants can be done a) on time and b) on budget. Otherwise, yeah, the deal might close but then they'll churn very quickly and you'll never do business with them again

you're supposed to promise the client that some imaginary, ideal, breakthrough tech the engineers can't deliver for another year and a half will be available within the month then scream endlessly at the engineers and on site guys once you obviously miss the deadline.

I am aware that people do this and it baffles me. Surely then I'd look like a cunt?
