Read the satoshi affair to understand why Craig bailed on doing a real signing in public. It was just to much circus and he felt he was not ready. ln can't change the total supply of coins nor can it mess with the security of the blockchain it keeps things trustless but somewhat erodes the permissionless nature of bitcoin as far as offchain transactions go, if ln nodes get centralized enough but this is something for the future to tell.
