Confused about BAT

Any time someone asks Brendan Eich or the Brave team why they launched their own token, they claim it is because BTC was/is too slow with high fees. But isn't this misleading? BAT activity within the Brave browser is not even done onchain. Within Brave it is centralized using a database. Therefore the same thing could be done within the browser with BTC and so the scalability/fees would not be any more of an issue than they are right now with BAT. Am I misunderstanding this or is the Brave team just using a misdirection excuse when the real reason they made their own token was simply as a fundraising mechanism?

They created it for the UGP but they sometimes also state that BTC is slow to try to get normies to understand how its a cryptocurrency, like bitcoin.

They created their own token so that they can take 30% of advertising profits. That number is put in the open on their website. This company is complete bullshit, railing against middlemen in the ad business taking profits and how you pay for it with your data, yet their solution is to do the same shit except now they get rich instead.

You seem pretty unintelligent, so let's break this down. Brave does transactions offchain until a certain date every month, then its transactions are conducted on the blockchain in a batch.

Therefore even if Brave were to use BTC, the slowness and fees would still be an issue as soon as Brave wants to conduct onchain transactions. Imagine trying to do these transactions each month and having to worry about old man Bitcoin taking 3 days and eating up your transaction through fees.

Imagine how pissed everybody would be. People would just be like "WHY DIDN'T YOU USE [my shitcoin]?? IT'S 10X FASTER THAN BITCOIN!"

Bitcoin maximalists are so goddamn small minded, it's really kind of sad. They're (very, very) slowly realizing how useless BTC has become. It's funny watching them screech at Craig and then turn around and use the exact same arguments that Craig uses against altcoins.
