Town Crier was developed by a bunch of uni students. Any company with funding could re produce a similar system quickly and more effectively.

This is true, although everyone should still consider what Zack Hess has to say and Chainlink should address his critiques. But his project "Amoveo" is directly conflicting with LINK so that should be kept in mind.
I don't own any LINK, I own BAT, but I'll tell you this much:
Whenever somebody comes along and has a valid critique of BAT, the Brave team usually addresses that critique either on Twitter or they'll actually go and fix the problem if it's a valid critique. My question is, does LINK ever do anything like this? Like if someone brings up a valid problem with LINK, will Sergey/someone else from the team actually ever address it? Or are they infallible and don't need to ever fix any issues with the project?

Theres nothing to refute.
He misses the point of Chainlink entirely. Chainlinks purpose is to create a network that incentives bridging truthful data to smartcontracts in the most decentralized way possible. At the same time compensating smartcontract users in case they receive false data.
Its that simple. Everything else is extra. the security that a decentralized oracle network can provide is just another layer. Is it perfect? no. no system is perfect. But it doesn't need to be perfect. Augur is not perfect as well. He even states this.
If you understand the oracle problem and its limitations you soon realize that Hess article is pointless.
Hes stating the obvious and actually reinforces what we all know. The oracle problem can't be 100% solved but chainlink comes the closest and industries and the biggest institutions are willing to accept Chainlinks solution. There is no other competitor that comes close.

Chainlink's solution is less secure and more expensive than alternatives like bitcoin hivemind, augur, or amoveo.
