I wrote a novel. It's a pretty fat one. I hired a professional copy editor to help me perfect it. The people who've read the manuscript really liked it. Been working on it for many years now. Its content and humor would have been considered fine in the 90s and 2000s. Today, it would be considered controversial, but then again, people even get offended by "Friends" now. What's the best way to get it out to market from a business standpoint? Old school? Amazon? Private website? I want it in airports, libraries, and bookstores.
How do I make money off a novel?

99% of book sales are on Amazon/online nowadays
Pitch it to HBO, Netflix, ...
Sell it as an ebook on Amazon and buy a bunch of fake reviews.
Pay a celebrity to take a picture of themselves reading your book on the beach
Publishing on Amazon, as far as Amazon is concerned, won't limit you from publishing it elsewhere.

needs more apprentice wizards, heaving breasts and dragons
Interesting. I'll look into that.
Decent idea.
So if I self-publish it there, it can still be picked up by Penguin, for example?
Cool, thanks.
The story takes place in the current year in a big city. No fantasy stuff.
It was the best of times, it was the worst times.
i cant help u mate but can u tell me your way of working? how did u motivate urself, how did you continue when u were at a block (story wise) and stuff like that? i want to become a writer but i am struck by the modern disease of having no discipline
Post it here, I'll help u decide senpai
t. Publisher
yup, we need a sample chapter, at least
>So if I self-publish it there, it can still be picked up by Penguin, for example?
You misread that. I heard publishers won't touch something already published in some form.
I think the first step is finding an agent who can sell your novel to a publisher. Costs you nothing.
Good job OP. I'm just now getting started on my novel. Working on the plot outline. My dream is to make it in crypto and be free to write the kind of novels i want without worrying about having to make money from it
Did you study lit or creative writing?
you don't. why do you ever think you would?
I'm a full time writer (communications, content marketing, B2B) and I hate writing fiction, it's arduous. Well done OP, would like to read a bit.
Sure.
I started writing down random thoughts, scenes, characters, and stories when I was in college. Eventually I was able to put some parts together and I realized that I was working on a book, even though I didn't have the intention to write one. It just kinda happened.
At that point I made the decision to finish it. I wrote every single day for a little over a year. No exceptions or excuses, even on the day my grandmother passed away I got a couple of sentences down. Sometimes I'd write one word on one day, sometimes I'd write ten pages in an evening. The amount didn't matter, as long as I did something every day. That really was the key to getting the first draft done.
I didn't have a storyline in my head, I just wrote whatever came next. The first draft was almost 200.000 words. I spent several years on and off cutting that down and refining it. Currently it's at around 130.000 words, which is still a lot, but at least it is not ridiculous. The whole thing is better because of the fat being cut off. I'm currently working really hard to remove wordiness, passive voice, and unnecessary characters and plot-lines. I want to re-write it until I cannot make it better anymore. One big lesson I've learned is that the hardest, most important, and most time consuming part of writing, is re-writing. It's been a rewarding experience, though. I get a kick out of it every time I sit down and work on it, and I can't wait to finish it.
TLDR how-to: create a new Word document and open it every day to add something to it. No excuses ever. Every. Single. Day... even if it's one sentence. It keeps the motor running.
Good luck, and fair warning: once you've decided you're really going to do this, you're in all the way. I can't not do it anymore.
Scrivener is an absolutely amazing tool that helps me organize things. I highly recommend it if you plan to start writing, too.
And make sure to make backups of your work like your life depends on it.
Cool, best of luck!
And no, just a fan of great writers. Hunter S Thompson, Bukowski, Elmore Leonard, and Tom Wolfe are some of my favorites. Hemingway and Fitzgerald are amazing, too.
Their stuff is so good and cool that it made me want to write.
Self publish your book. Make a special cover for ~100 of them that says
>I wrote this book for you to read and enjoy. Please take it and read it. When you are done with it give it to a friend to read. If you feel like you enjoyed it enough consider donating at cuz.com
Leave those copies around town and see what happens.
Nice, def a fan of those guys. Agree that Scrivener is god-tier novel writing software.
Good luck on your publishing journey, i would say getting an agent is a must if you really want a chance to be picked up by a major house. Also don't be discouraged if you get rejected; everything is really pozzed right now so unless you are a minority or a femanon you might have to go thru a lot more hoops. Your novel could be badass but if it won't sell to bookish liberal normies it might be harder to get published
I'd love to but I feel like it would somehow be a bad idea to post it on Jow Forums if I'm going to seriously attempt to get it published in the future.
Fantastic idea. Thanks senpai.
Seriously try to get a proper publisher before self-publishing. I imagine they handle advertising and distribution.
use a jewish pen name and then spam samefagging threads on pol about how shit it is, when twitter picks up the antisemitism youll make bank.
Thank you.
And you hit the nail on the head with what I'm thinking about with the whole publishing thing. I've looked on literary agency websites and the dominant themes they're looking for are feminist propaganda, heroic stories about minorities, and anything lgbtwtfbbq-related. My main character is a straight white guy who's an alcoholic pussy-hound. It doesn't fit the current woke agenda at all.
Bed time for me now. I'll check back tomorrow morning. If the thread is locked, I'll post here once in a while to keep you guys updated. Thanks for all the input. You guys are the best.
