Can someone redpill me on what the reported price of the futures market actually represents? I don't understand how heterogeneous contracts with different points of termination, lengths and option price points could have a market price statistic
Options are insurance, and more people buy insurance when they are scared. If I need 10$/per unit to build my product, then I might buy the rights to that price to avoid getting butt fucked by a tariff. Even if the butt fucking tariff doesn't happen, I've turned an uncertainty into a known cost which is usually ba good idea
I understand the fundamental that futures go up when the expected future price of the underlying asset goes up - I just don't understand what future price is relevant (I.E. which exact future date). When people talk about DOW futures, how far down the line are the options?
Also, say I buy a DOW future for 10k; presumably that means that in the future (say, a year) I will exchange 10k for an agreed upon amount of the index fund.
If the price of futures then goes up to 11k, and I want to sell, how exactly do I know what my future is worth, because my future presumably refers to a contract with an execution date earlier than the contracts which the market now reports the market price for.
They cannot police the world's waterways and are an export economy with vast natural resource intake. America is the reserve currency because, like Portugal/Spain/UK/etc, they allow countries to ignore piracy and not have to charge eachother huge tariffs to finance their respective navies.
