But nobody actually controls the transactions. Which is the key factor even if the developers hold control over the source code. People wont buy into the tech if its not open source already. Which means anything the government does is just as scrutinized as anything else. Even the most authoritarian regime can create a crypto and fall victim to the fact that the currency wont hold value to the average person if its not open source and decentralized. The tether pump caused the price of Bitcoin to go up because people stopped trusting Tether and had no other place to park value other than BTC. This means BTC merely found its correct market value had far less people used tether in the first place.
