My dad just rolls his eyes when I even say the word "invest". To him ANY form of investing is "gambling" I shit you not. Even boomer tier stocks and bonds, he's never done any research into anything. my old man has been self employed his entire life and got burned hard in 2008 after heavily investing in BoA, then capitulated and locked in major losses, retirement gone. he gets visibly upset when i try to talk about any form of investment with him. i loaded a ledger with 10k link for him and another with 5k for my underemployed sister. we went through a lot of hard times together and i just want to give them a leg up on life however possible.

Damn that blows, my dad's in debt for almost $100K because he's really terrible with money, most of that is student loans and credit card debt. He's always been there for me though when times were tough and my entire family has been pretty poor up until about 6 years ago or so. My mom funny enough is doing very well financially so I don't have to worry about her but my dad is pretty well fucked. I don't know if he knows it or if he just tries to hide it from me but I know he won't be able to truly retire on his own at this point.
