I just shuffle my shitcoins around at the end of the year to use as realized losses for taxes. Most of my stack is BTC already. I dont do a lot of trading, i just pick projects i think have potential in the long term and sit on them for years. Most of them fail, as shitcoins typically do.

interesting, can you only write them off as losses if you hold < 365 days or why? i am also more of a long-term holder, so far that worked out really well. almost fomo'd into RSR last week so glad i dogded that bullet kek.

There is no time limit on realizing losses. If its worth less than when you bought it, if you sell it for BTC you realize the loss and write it off. Even if you want to keep the shitcoin, if its at a loss, sell it for BTC, then immediately buy it again and you can realize the loss.
