im in the UK they only give us blunt knives to use if the thing is really tough. sometimes you have to cut the veg with the edge of a tray. i happened to be using the knife at the time though. the lettuce was quite a lot so they made an exception

okay go to the doctor and get them to say you have hearing loss. Problem is going to be you will have to go multiple times to show that it is permanent otherwise probably won't be worth the money to sue. Also, (call out sick to work on Monday when you go to the doctor). Then talk to lawyer if possible so they can help you write the correct stuff when you file report at work. Make sure you stress how loud it was, how you have lost hearing according to doctor, how it is causing you stress and anxiety, you are jumpy, you can't sleep, not hungry. etc. Make it sound like the other person was way out of line and you are really hurt. (really talk to a lawyer if you have not by the time you file your report with job and don't say anything to anyone after you file report unless you talk to a lawyer first.) Probably not worth filing a police report but talk to a lawyer about that IDK how UK exactly works with this stuff.
Maybe you should see a doctor first and then probably an ear specialist.
If the ear specialist concludes there has been damage to your ear then you can sue for the cost of surgery and/or treatment.
If there is ongoing or long term physical therapy, then he or the company will also be liable.
If the damage is permanent or otherwise you may be entitled to a lump sum generally covered by the company liability policy or you may have to sue the employee.
