Any accountants here?
Accounting
to become an accountant one needs discipline and dedication to working at things you don't like. /biz doesn't seem to have these qualities from what i gather
I'm sure, considering at any given time all the time, this board is 90-95 meme coin shilling and shitposting. Just figured I'd check anyways.
*90-95%
never met an accountant that likes their job. what kind of fucked up kid grows up and dreams of being an accountant?
Me, I guess, though it did after some trials and errors in other things come to me overnight.
I’m an accountant but not a CPA. Decided to not pursue it after being burnt out during college. Currently working in accounting department of regular company. It’s ok. Probably wouldn’t want to do it for the rest of my life if I could switch
What department or specialization do you work in?
Did an accounting class, enough to make me realize it’s fucking horseshit. I can’t wait for automation to replace this bullshit
What are you, a goddamn moron? He just said he works in the accounting department, probably managerial in nature
You probably learned just bookkeeping, which is the tedious part of accounting, but not the whole of it. Also you're rude. I'm not speaking to you anymore.
i worked in accounting for several years while in school
really enjoyable work i think
now i work in IT and dont have time to do it as a side gig but the time i spend in accounting helped me a lot getting into corp life and in general when it comes to IT
I have to pick my fucking major asap, I have some questions about accounting:
>Will automation destroy this career in 10-15 years?
>How important is school name vs school location in getting a job right out of college?
>How important is it for a school to have a separate accounting aacsb accreditation, in addition to the business accreditation-- does it matter to employers?
Please speak with me some more nerd
Since it’s a small company (20 corporate staff), I do a wide variety of stuff. AP, AR, sales recording, other stuff my boss can’t be bothered with. My department is two people with one person above me who handles taxes and all the managerial tasks. Not super focused in accounting as much as things I’ve learned in college. Decent job though. 24 years old, 65k, very rarely work over 40 hours a week and never work on the weekend.
Same as most of the white collar careers. If you are an NPC just going through the motions, then yes, it will be automated. If you become knowledgable enough to save company money with your knowledge of taxation and finance you will quickly rise through the ranks
>A lot of it will probably be automated. There will still be need for people to overlook the accuracy of automation and review. CPA will probably still be needed since documents need to be reviewed and certified, other people audited etc.
>As long as it’s not a liberal arts college, you’ll probably be ok.
>I’ve never ever been asked about accreditation.
Despite my current role which I spoke about above, I did interview at some accounting firms/investment banks. I might not have the best knowledge, but this board is pretty dead, especially non-crypto discussion
What a coincidence. I actually transferred to accounting from IT, while still doing some IT as a side thing as well.
Ok, but only if you're not rude.
That's pretty cool, man. I want to eventually open my own firm as a long term goal. But for now, I'm actually focused on specializing in Forensics Accounting in particular, which means I'll probably have to take an Audit path for my degree program. I want to work for an investigative firm.
>I might not have the best knowledge
That's totally fine, man. I just want to chat with other accounting guys, honestly. That's why I made the thread. Feel free to post anything, it doesn't have to be q&a necessarily.
Yeah, it can be a lot of bullshit work at times but it’s good for me for now. I think it might be difficult for me to pivot from this role unfortunately. We’ll see.
Sounds pretty good path for you. I was interested in audit, but really just got burnt out. Forensic might be a lot of work. Your own firm is a good long term goal. Best of luck, user.
FWIW an accounting degree is way better than a business degree. A lot of people I know who majored in accounting are now working on Wall Street and aren't accountants. A business degree is a scam where they convince you that group projects = experie

>keeping track of things is bullshit
wew
This is actually true. My professors even admit as such. It's a kind of open secret that within the Business college as a whole, Accountants have pretty much 0 problem finding a job compared to the other departments (Marketing, HR, Econ, etc). Hell, the job rate for accounting graduates is literally 99% at my college.
General Business degrees are honestly worthless while accounting will teach you the same thing and more while having more value.
Are Japanese futon's actually comfy?
I've been using Excel for 20 years
What burned you out?
> Forensic might be a lot of work
I don't mind that, actually. I think I actually prefer it, since, well, no gf or friends really so the only thing to occupy my mind is Jow Forums, porn and work/study.
I used to be an accountant but I moved on because it's not fun enough to do as a full time job. If you major in it, it's pretty much guaranteed a solid first job out of college, though.
Pretty shit. But you're guaranteed a job. It's well known that even the best candidates get treated like shit.
