simplest is to set up MEW address and use ledger to control MEW. Point of using ledger (or trezor) is that it stores your private key and makes it much harder for malware to get your private key. w/o ledger then you have to type something in when you go to MEW and so keylogger or something could potetially grab it.

they give you a 24 word recovery/seed phrase. As long as you have the seed phrase then you can get a new ledger and initialize it with the seed phrase. Suggest checking out that other thread with good suggestions about, e.g. how to keep that seed phrase safe.
