Your question was ironic but I literally work in ag statistics so here's a real answer. Sometimes it can be profitable but literally the only money to be had is in pollination services. Most of the bigger beekeepers don't bother to harvest honey, they make all their money in the spring when they cart their hives to california to pollinate almonds. Honey production usually is a net loss for the apiary.

It's questionable whether any beekeeping will be profitable in the future as most apiaries' hives are getting absolutely rekt by varroa mites, pesticide drift and colony collapse (not just a meme, it's real). A lot of operators have to replace 50%+ of their hives each year because of all that shit.
