Same as anyone else. One man, one vote. How is BAT worth anything? How is BTC worth anything? Worth and value are derived from a community reaching consensus on that value. Here, the value of the token is derived from the time and effort you and your phone put into contributing to the network. That contribution is just automated so you don't have to think about it.
Furthermore, you can only add the person who invited you, or people whom you have invited, to your circle. You cannot add random users, and Jow Forums seems to completely misunderstand this. It's intended to be a web of invites that goes roughly one-way.
If you sign up using my code, for example, I will get a boost to my mining power and you will get the same boost to your mining power that you get using any other code. This fucking "maximum mining boosts" bullshit is only technically true, in that the flat rate you gain is the same as anyone elses and therefore the maximum amount.
