We have a cognitive bias towards physical things and visual reference to "size" aka a stack of $20000 is more exhilarating than that number in a bank account.
Maybe this will clarify things: The US government put in place a paper reduction drive but instead of "less" distractions, we are facing exponentially more in the amount of emails and chats and what not. A boss putting out a paper memo incurs a cost. A boss sending 5 email memos faces far less resistance.

what's fucked up is that most people are using privatized currency (credit/debit). We're dependent on private companies to provide us with fucking currency now. If you don't think that's scary, think about the growing trend of large companies refusing to serve customers with different political beliefs.
