not gonna say the biz but it was working fine except i live at home with parents and trying to run a home based business from your parents home is a nightmare. they always come in to the room where my customers are and start talking to them and shit asking embarrasing questions. it sucks too because the biz was actually becoming successful but i couldn't continue doing it from home. I'd probably fair better if i had a shop to work out of but thats a lot of overhead expenses. it sucks when your dreams of being self employed are at your finger tips but circumstances prevent you from acheiving it.

Put out Craigslist ads (yes, Craigslist) for $5 a pop in big and medium size cities across the USA with a well written ad with a pic, contact info, and maybe a link to a landing page with more info about your service.

Call your past clients and ask for referrals.

I partnered with a pair of guys who opened two successful vape shops and opened an additional location. Generally there are two types of businesses: 1) product-oriented, and 2) service oriented.

All my businesses were service oriented which meant I had to work 24/7/365 to earn money. Unlike product-oriented companies which can operate with sales inertia if their product is good enough, service-oriented companies start dying the second proactive sales and business development efforts stop. Hence the immense workload and psychological pressure to get going no matter what–vacation, illness, weekends or free time with your family.

Owning a business is a very stressful thing to do because it also involves stuff like dealing with IRS, being responsible for the wellbeing of your employees, having balls to fire underperforming people, kissing butts of your clients, constant hustling for new opportunities, being able to play hardball in negotiations, being able to publically promote yourself as a business owner, not getting paid by some of your clients, etc.

Owning a service-oriented business is a 100% commitment that requires great people skills. It’s a stressful and psychologically uncomforting endeavour, so you have to have a true passion for what you’re doing or else you’ll fail miserably.

But how do you get those first few sales? Say I made a very barebones but useful and niche crypto app. Where do you look for clients, and how do you quickly close a sale or two, just to get off the ground, even if only a few inches?
