You seem to be a pretty based person.
You judge things by their technical merit alone.
Personally, I think 2017 has proven that blockchain technology cannot scale globally. Not just with BTC, even ETH was choking on Crypto Kitties, or most popular ICOs.
I think when global adoption arrives, it's MUCH MORE ADOPTED than everyone thinks. When a parent gives their child their daily allowance, that's a transaction. When a group of friends chip in to pay for a pizza together, each one is a transaction. When a cam girl or a game streamer gets a tip, that's a transaction. When an online ad gets a view, the hosting site/app gets paid from the advertiser, that's a transaction. When someone devices to give a post "gold", that's a transaction.
This will be BILLIONS of transactions per day.
Global adoption level of scaling simply cannot be done on-chain.
But I think Lightning in it's current form is also not cut out for this. Maybe if there was a way people could get channels without having to pay a fee or wait a block, if balancing channels want an issue and you could just keep using your channel one-way. Right now there's too much friction both on the on-ramp and actual usage-wise.
DAGs seem great but they're all centralized and need a coordinator of some form.
Right now I'm going for a better L2 solution, or maybe something built on top of Lightning, like an L3.
