Other than that find and exchange, Ilike Binance and Kraken. The best approach whrn starting is to cash in every month until you have a big enough stack to swing. LINK isn't a terrible buy.
If I were just starting now Id try and get some KMD and maybe some XTZ and HOT. Try not to chase moon shots if something goes parabolic it'll come back down, if you have patience you wont miss out.

Depends on what you can afford. Don't make yourself broke IRL because you think you can be a millionaire next year. I used to pay in between £100 and £500 a month depending on how much overtime I worked and got lucky on XRP EOS and HOT. I got my first XRP at 10c and my first EOS and $1.50. Point being don't be afraid to buy new projects if they look strong. (I only hold HOT out of these now)
Start with coins that have potential and medium sized Market caps i think things like KMD are a good choice for people just coming in. It worth keeping some ETH also as it's useful. Be sure to take profits. You can make money by buying back in on the way down.
Use coinmarketcap.com to find tokens, their twitters and websites and always book mark your exchanges homepage.
You dont NEED a hardware wallet, but it's probably the best opsec. Download the exodus wallet the electrum wallet and the meta mask browser plugin for most of your wallet needs.
