They are learning English, but if you want a tasty job in literally almost any sector, knowledge of Chinese language and time spent in China literally goes so far because China is such an important trading partner of Australia.
I can almost guarantee that if you and me were going for the job and had the same grades, qualifications, experience but I had some degree of mandarin proficiency, I would be prioritised well above you.
It’s literally a no brainer. I would like to hear one good reason why any nation wouldn’t want it’s citizens to learn the language of their most important trading partner
