How does shorting and longing work? Lets say you short with 1 btc at 100x and get liquidated, do you now owe whatever your short/long gains could have been?

Remember that you can always lock your short if you feel that the price is heading above your liquidation price.

>borrow coins from the exchange and short-sell them
>notice that the price is moving against you too fast
>re-buy the borrowed amount before liquidation
>set up a conditional sell order so that when the price drops again you sell it automatically

This way you can wait out a storm without being liquidated.

I had the sell order at 3k and when it kept rising I just kept telling myself it would come back down
