If someone is trying to sell this to you I'd say it's worth less than a dollar, if you found it metal detecting then clean it up and have it tested at a jewelry shop, it's probably 100$ worth of scrap.

if you found it, pick it appart and see what it's made of. there should be no reason why it's a nugget like that, and it filled to the brim with dust. just wash it, cut some of the 'gold' to see if it's just gold plated, try to melt it under low temperature. if you came up to a jeweler with this he would laugh his ass of and kick you out.

OP, take a magnet and see if any of of sticks, if it doesn't stick to the magnet its most likely gold, get a gold pan and start washing the shit off

Assuming half of the weight is dust, and the gold being 14k average, its probably 2000-3000$ worth

You just go to the jewelry store to have it tested, of they don't want to do it in front of you then go somewhere else. Testing is usually free if they aren't a bunch of crooks. Look for a family run jewelry store that is not obviously jewish.

If you don't trust any jewelry stores or anyone, then just hold on to your gold shit, and look up how to do the acid testing yourself, kits online are less than 100$.

To me it looks like a chain wrapped in an old cloth that has rotted away. So first order of business for you would be to separate the rot from the gold.

judging by the looks of it, the yellow material hasn't degraded or oxidated thus it's probably gold or at least plated with gold
try to dent it with something, if it's soft and is dented easily it's probably 18 or more carats

Its not pure gold, its the left overs from jewelry, looks like someone swept the floor of a jewelry workshop, jewelry is usually made from 10k-18k gold the most common is 14k, pure gold would be 24 k but there's not much jewelry thats pure gold. Anyways nice find OP

If its gold its mostly scrap gold. Not investment grade so the value wont be much. Anyone who buys it would have to put in money to make it useful or sit on it and hope to sell it off to someone else.
