Ledger, private keys, MEW

My ledger finally arrived today. I wanted to connect it to MEW but MEW wants me to give them my private key. Why did I bother getting a hardware wallet for maximum security if I'm just gonna have to hand out my fucking backup phrase anyway? Is this safe? Do you guys do this?

>he fell for the hardware wallet scam

LMAO

>MUH PAPER WALLET AND AIRGAPPED UBUNTU LAPTOP WITH THE WIFI CHIP DISABLED.

kys retard.

wtf dont give out your private key.

Not your key, not your subaru

WTF are you talking about? Click the radio button for "Ledger", fool!

you need to use ledger live to set up an ethereum app on the device and then when you connect to MEW, open your ledger and go to the ethereum app and it will sync up

I wasn't planning on it. Why would a service like MEW of all things ask for one?

>giving up all your access to your money to closed source hackable software
oh no no nooo. seriously if youre retarded enough to fall for the hardware wallet meme get a fuckin trezor

OP it wants you to sign the transaction, your private key never leaves the chip. You sign the tx offline, and you give the tx to the blockchain and then it's public.

If your ledger's screen is actually announcing that your private key is leaving the device, then someone's trying to hack you

You select the hardware option retard, not the pvt key option.

>muh chinese USB thumbdrive with build in backdoors

It doesn't. OP is needs to RTFW.

Literally just go on MEW, click the Hardware Wallet button, hook up the Ledger, click on the Ethereum app when you get the browser alert, and pick your wallet.

since OP's question has been answer this is now a "WHAT IS THE BEST LEDGER" thread.

what do you guys have?

reminder that everyone advocating for paper wallets is either an actual expert cryptographer/comp scientist or a mega faggot

Yup. Ledger is going to exit scam every one of their customers lmao.

Imagine being this retarded. Tin foils up the wazoo.

i've been in crypto for many years

have you niggers never heard of keepass or what?

Guys my ledger is already fucking set up. Including the live app and the Ethereum app installed. The MEW webpage connects just fine. I just wanted to see if there was a way I could monitor and move funds easily. The MEW chrome extension offers that, but wants my private key to do so. Guess I'll just forget the extension and continue to do it the way that requires a million steps. I suppose that's the trade-off for being secure.

I’m going with mega faggot. Just a gut feeling.

ledger nano X and S.
The X is way better

Muh Chinese Lenovo laptop with built in backdoors and botnet.

Bluetooth and usb-c is what sold me on the X.

Do you have the box the Ledger came in? Yes? Good. Please pack the Ledger away inside the box and proceed to return the item to the vendor. When the customer service rep asks you why you are returning it, please inform them that you are too stupid to own one.

>Not your key, not your subaru
TOP KEK. wew my sides.

That conclusion to the Cloud Expo was legit one of the most bullish moments in crypto history.
