does college reputation matter? i don't know if i should go to a more prestigious uni or a lesser reputable one to save money.
Does college reputation matter...
Prestige matters. Connections is a big part of that too though.
unless it's one of the big ten then it literally makes no difference where degree is from. only thing that matters to the normies is that you got one and suffered through the process like they did.
Depends on the field. In finance or business it matters a great deal, it matters a lot less in the hard sciences unless you go to MIT/Caltech/etc.
If you're studying humanities anywhere you're never gonna make it.
hey man not all of us can live off just shitcoins
>My friend went to big prestigious school.
>I went to unknown state school.
>I own 18k link.
>The intrest on his debt is larger than my mortgage payment.
You tell me user.
Prestige is part of the outcome but not the only factor. All else being equal yes.
well university of chicago isn't an ivy league school but it's pretty prestigious. so i have a choice between that or some cheaper literal who uni.
i am going into computer science
unless ur doing medicine/law i don't see the point in uni anymore
For the first two years, nobody gives a shit. Go to community college. After, switch over to a university. Obviously ivy league is looked on better than Ohio state, but if it's not ivy league, it's all about the same. Education will be the same no matter what. But the word Harvard carries more weight than ucf.
U Chicago is worth it IMO, really prestigious. Though relative to going to a literal who uni your gains will be less because you're in comp. sci. rather than economics/business.
honestly i'd have no idea what i'd do with a econ/business degree. i'm only going the STEM route because it's secure rewarding career path.
if you are a legit autist (like, the type of autist that can't even get with reddit fags """"autists"""" so wonky and random XD), then it doesn't matter because you won't be able to get the connections anyway in a top uni either
nah STEM is great i wouldn't advise you to go econ/business unless you can't keep up with the coursework, im just saying prestige/connections matter more in those fields.
also this. a lot of autists just stay in their dorms all year and don't do shit, so it becomes a moot point.
tell that to sir gay
college reputation means nothing
only reason to go to ivy league is to make connections and nothing else
good point. i'm pretty introverted but not borderline autistic to the point where i can't talk to people.
When I'm looking at a resume I always look at where they went to school first. There are so many devs applying from random community colleges and bootcamps, so seeing someone from a good university makes you read the rest of their resume and view them more favorably.
but maybe I just do it this way because I went to good schools, so I'm projected my own bias of academia.
my own experience is a cautionary tale, i was pretty good the first two years of uni, but pretty autistic, so i didn't made many friends, a lot of people took my help when dealing with courses though and i helpt a lot of people
then third year, my father went ill, bedridden, and i got a pretty fucked up depression, then i started failing my classes, not showing up, and since i was autistic people just didn't liked me, so they didn't gave me help with info about when the exams were going to be or what the course was about, what material was going to show up in exams or even the material the prof showed up in class, so i started failing classes and got a lot behind, now im pretty much blackpilled so i don't help anybody and im trying to finish uni so i can dedicate my time to any job, ended with literally 0 contacts, fuck uni and fuck stem, everyone there likes the people who are the most productive and intelligent but once shits hits the fan you get left behind like if you were a piece of shit, it doesn't matter to build up prestige because if you fuck up once you are done, fuck that shit
im pretty sure if i were "normal" like had chad features or something, people would have helped me through those times, but since i was a manlet piece of shit with no redeemable features other than the prospects to have money in the future if i did well, once i started doing wrong i was basically cattle so nobody helped me at all
my only advice is take something you are SURE that you can finish, and if it's through debt be sure it doesn't last more than 2 years or something like that, taking a full 5 year career that needs top fucking elite excellence to pass without fucking up courses through debt is kill yourself tier
if it's free, then take something long and enjoy your time, at least you have lots of free time to think in the weeks with low assignment time
> Suffered
Was uni hard for you lmao
Depends on a lot of factors. If you're going into law/business, then yes it matters quite a bit. Engineering, only if it's a super top-tier school, otherwise it's all about what you're able to do yourself. Science, somewhere in the middle. Average schools sometimes have a few great research labs nestled away, which can give you the connections to get a good job, but if you want to be a professor you better be shooting for the toppest of tier colleges.
military academies pay for your entire time there btw.
t. in one of the five
Learn to talk to people. learn to become super extroverted at a high level school and it will get you places. Make loads of connections. Give out some love and appreciation for people
A lot of it also depends on exactly what subject you are planning to study. Some schools that would be considered top-tier for one specific disclipline or area of study might also be average or slightly-above average for others.
But regardless of what you choose, going community college for the first two years and then transferring is good advice.
