You're assuming whoever is pumping or buying into chainlink cares about the tech other than "oracles" sounding like a nice buzzword.

They were willing to pay for it because if their competitors had it, they'd fall behind. One of them allegedly asked to pay a higher price in order to keep other players out. The HFT algos are not that complex. They pretty much involve spotting a large bid order, buying everything at the ask on other exchanges since they can get there faster, and reselling it to the original bid at a few cents premium.
