It is the a scalable public-private blockchain with deletable data features.
This makes it viable for use by businesses that require to remain compliant with EU wide GDPR regulations.

On top of this layer dApps can be built.
One of which is a P2P energy trading dApp that is already commericalized by the seperate entity Lition Energie. This is already being used across more than 25 German cities.
Since the founders are former director at Vattenfall, they likely have good connections to expand this business.
Another dApp that is already in beta stage is a syndicate loan dApp that has been developped in a piloting project between Lition, the german Volks and Raiffeisenbanken and a real estate development company with more than 100 million in assets.

Many other uses are envisioned like smart metering and data management.

SAP develops the decentralized ledger and smart contract layer while lition is providing the open consensus layer.

Which use case are you talking about?

Lition decided to keep data private by placing that data on private sidechains only that are available only to trusted nodes. By using encryption your data is still public and available to anyone once this encryption is cracked 10 or 20 years from now.
That's far from a certainty but it is a risk.
