or anything where you're out in the wilderness doing work? I'm 29 and looking for a complete career change. I don't care about money, I just want to do a physical job outside. I feel like a fucking bitch sitting in front of a computer not doing jack shit
It's great user. I used to work like this and now I'm stuck in front of a computer 14 hours a day

dude i live in oregon and there's a lot of opportunities being a logger and the forest is fucking beautiful, i drive for a living and pass by loggers working in the forest all the time and it seems like they're having a good time
Grayson Young
yes, it's called being a man

I think you might be a bit old to get into it, unless you're physically in shape.

All of them are shit and still heavily infested with literal 60+ yo boomers

>Sucks at first makes you feel like a bitch >Becomes satisfying when you gain competence >Suddenly chad tradesman mode on top of the world >Gets repetitive and less fulfilling as time goes by >Back and knees start hurting >Realize you fucking hate the thought of getting up the next morning for work >Sucks ass again and will make you jaded for life if you don't move on to something else
I don't hurt, sir, and enjoy it everyday. Every time I get a new wound, I feel connected with feeling.

As someone who has had a job where I was out in the wilderness and have seen a lot of people quit after their 1st week due to the physical demands. Longest duration I got to spend in the wildy was 1 month straight. Be in shape, if you don't have veteran status you might need to start in the conservation corps to get certified in things like wilderness first aid, chainsaws, etc for free. Your body will hurt/feel like it doesn't exist all the time.
Funny enough I am a veteran, they will give me some preference then?
thanks for the encouragement bro
I'm not in bad shape. Is 29 really too old? Fuck. I just turned it.

Check out wildland fire fighting. I did it in the summer during college, not a bad gig. The full timers make enough during the summer fire months to take the rest of the year off. You aren't really jumping into a death inferno, most of my time was spent hiking around where the fire had already passed thru and checking for hot spots, putting them out so the fire can't reignite later.
Joshua Lopez
Sounds interesting. I will check it out
Juan Allen
Yeah, it's pretty much being a forest janitor. Not a bad gig though.

>I just want to do a physical job outside This feeling will evaporate about a week in. Possible 2 days in.
Veteran status will give you hiring preference for gov jobs (which is basically the majority of wilderness work). You're good to go. I agree working in an office sucks. When I worked in an office I felt like a domesticated animal. Hiring season is probably over, but offer to volunteer while you have your office job. When hiring season opens up again, get in there. Check out usajobs.gov, maybe you'll see some shit that's open that you're interested in.

Use a hex to ASCII converter to read and thank me later
Thanks brah, I really appreciate it. What job did you do?

Check out your State parks as well. They are almost always hiring people and it’s not a bad gig. Pay is probably minimum wage or slightly above but you aren’t exactly killing yourself usually. You’ll probably do stuff like cut down trees, dig holes, gravel road edges trim trees and bushes, paint things, install signs etc. You’ll hopefully get trained on chain saws power tools and all sorts of other equipment. Just make it very clear to them that you are looking for experience in those fields. Otherwise you may get put on something like cleaning and collecting money.

Will do, thanks for the info dude. I really appreciate it. There's three national forests in my state.
Trail construction, fencing, some fuel reduction /invasive species surveying & removal.
Right now I'm just trying to finish up my biochemistry degree/then getting a masters. I'd like to get back out there as a scientist. There is no way in hell I'm going to waste away in a lab/office my entire life.
I did find a tick latched onto my penis though. Biggest spook in my life.
