The better question to ask is how many day traders have a mortgage and what percentage of their mortgage is covered by their day trading profits. If you want to be more general, you can skip the mortgage and ask of one's monthly expenditures, how much of it is covered by day trading?
The answer is that basically no one is paying their bills off their day trading activities anymore unless they don't really have any bills to pay. You get a room full of 1000 day traders and 990 of them will lose money indefinitely. Of the 10 that remain 9 will need supplemental income and 1 might be paying their bills with day trading. And that's being generous.
Swing trading and longer term strategies is a different story. Day trading is the MLM of the investing world.
