I agree that reporting should be issued to the taxman to provide evidence of trades and any entry and exits to prove you arn't doing anything illegal but the tax should only be when you have converted crypto into another type of asset. Whats going to happen next tax return period when my link goes up to 100-500? Ill have to pay a massive sum of tax despite not having any actual money to pay for it. I will be forced to sell some of my stack to pay for unrealised gains. This sell will trigger another taxable event and then I will owe tax on top of that. I've been looking alot into it. Yes it's a taxable event when you make the trade, holding the asset as it accrues value wont provide any liability until you've traded it for anything really. So you wont have to sell your stack to pay with worth you didnt accrue. Minimally just the p/l in your trades. Initially youll probably scrape your stack catching up. But planning pricing that in for the future shouldn't be that painful if you play it right. Avoid, dont evade. Plus most of us have established a long term hold, which is very helpful.

How is a long term hold affected by buying more LINK? Example, I bought 5000 LINK one year ago, that 5000 LINK is now a long term capital gain. I buy 5000 more LINK today. Is my whole stack considered long term now, or is the whole stack considered short term, or do I have 5000 long term and 5000 short term?

If it's 5000 long 5000 short, how does the IRS know the difference? If I decide to sell 5000 how do they know I am selling the 5000 year old stack and not the 5000 new stack?
