When does staking begin? Is this a long term thing onces all the companies start using chainlink to make api calls or whatever the fuck. How much chainlink do I need to join a nodepool or run my own. What will the value of chainlink need to be for this to happen?

I have buy chainlink a couple times. Very clearly a solid currency and The company knows what they are doing.

No minimum amount. The amount of link staked is how much collateral you have to be able to accept higher-value contracts, but you can run a node with 0 link. To be listed on the official explorer you need to show your node will be reliable, which takes a decent VPS setup (something like two node VMs for redundancy, a managed database, SSH behind a VPN for security, and your own ETH node or EaaS subscription, total cost approx. $30-60/mo at the moment), but there will be plenty of other Independent listing services coming out. It doesn't have to be any price for that to happen.

If you have basic IT and *nix knowledge it's not hard, took me about two weekends and a couple afternoons to set up to the official standards. I *did* do a CS major but haven't used it in 7 years since I graduated.
