You think with all that money flowing through, that they could divert a little bit to put free public restrooms all over the place. The fucking businesses are to blame too since they won't let you use their bathroom even if you are a paying customer because they are afraid you are going to be shooting up in there and OD on the premises.

I live in Columbus, OH which people unironically call the SFO of the midwest. Here 50K is comfy as fuck and there's no shit on the sidewalks, so I don't get the comparisons.

If a legitimate charity doesn't show results, doesn't solve problems, doesn't display a gradual or real drop in the number of homeless, the people involved try to get their shit together before fundraising collapses. A city does not have that problem/accountability.

Thing is, the more the do-gooders on a city council try to act like they're Doing Something, the less collective effort goes towards legitimate charities. SF routes things through the wrong institutions because they are very pro-government and leave every other element of the civic ecosystem (like churches) barren.

Kindness is not a resource. But its financial equivalent, donations, is.

Democratic institutions are not democratic as long as they have people full-time officials running it. You give an official an organization, he discovers it is beyond helping, but he will tear his ass to keep it alive just to remain in seat and collect his piece of the pie.
