a great depression scenario nowadays would be absolutely catastrophic. something like 20% of the labor force in the U.S. was employed in agriculture. Nowadays, that number is 1%. The reason people lived through the Great Depression was because people actually knew how to live without modern amenities. Not only that, but the culture was almost all demographically white, meaning there was inherent trust and honor systems in place that kept neighbors from murdering each other and looting out of distrust and lack of respect for their fellow citizen.
