Average US income is in the $120-130k/year range, skewed by the rich (median is much lower).
$15 is observably low. Anyone making less than that will be relying on government benefits anyway.
So you can either have businesses stop taking advantage of low wage workers who don't know their value, or have the government take up the slack. Of course private businesses paying a far market wage would be a hundred times more efficient than massive government entitlement programs that are required today.
