What do you guys think about living in your van...

What do you guys think about living in your van? I keep seeing a bunch of yt videos recently about people converting them to live in and its apparently pretty cheap. I'm actually considering this as It might be a good way to save up some money to later invest. Thoughts?

There's this show called "tiny house nation" or something like that on Netflix. And these two dudes go around and build these so called "tiny homes" for people looking to down size and save money.
Might be worth your while.

I'll give it a look. But it sounds very expensive. I only got $4000 to my name and no current income. I feel like I might be able to squeeze a lot more out of a van than a regular house or apartment. The thought of paying rent to make some old boomer wealthier kills me.

My brother and his wife did this recently with a BMW Sprinter I think it is.

They spent about $15k for the van and then $5k for the materials and did all the work themselves (never did it before), which saved them about $10k in labor from the guy who they were going to pay to do it.

They said it was a lot of work but it turned out great and they're not handy by any means, so anybody can do it if that's what you wanna do.

Wow a positive and insightful reply that I was not at all expecting. Thank you Mr user. (minus the reddit spacing)

That $15K would be better if used for a down payment on a house.

Yeah but what other expense would come after doing that? Probably thousands per month in just managing a house. They probably only had 15k to their name.

Living in a van unless you're road tripping 100% of the time sounds like such a shit time. I'd probably neck myself if I lived in a van and wasn't on a constant roadtrip.

thats fucked up, I just got a ton of recomendations for the same thing but ive never been interested in any type of home inprovment or vehicle programs.

But you dont think its a good idea for people with little monies like me?

I know. Idk why im getting them either but it looks interesting enough for me to come here and ask about it.

Why don't you get a roommate or two, and live in a crappy apartment.

>I only got $4000 to my name and no current income
Get a job, dude.

Just live in a house or apartment. Heating during the winter and cooling during the winter is going to cost a fuckload anyways, vans aren't known for being well insulated. For how much extra energy alone is going to cost you it'll probably come out to the same as renting a room anyways.

I would like to reply to both of you directly.

Im not gonna lie. The cheapest apartment around me is currently $600 and thats just a studio. The complex is a section 8 shithole filled with niggers and really bad crime. I keep sending out applications but they are all turned down. The highest paying job I can get around me anyways if I did land one is about $12 and hour doing hardcore manual labor in a factory full of spics and niggers getting treated and working like a piece of property 12 hour days 6-7 days a week mandated OT. Also to get an apartment I would need a co signer as I don't have credit. As I see it, right now, as is, I'm fucked.

Find roommates and you might not have to live in the hood and rent will be cheap.

I have zero friends or people I know. And I cant stand normies. Or people in general. Id rather kms than live with some other person.

>Im not gonna lie. The cheapest apartment around me is currently $600 and thats just a studio.
$600/month? Forget the job. You need to move. Pronto.

It's like you're living in an expensive urban area, but you can only make $12/hour. That's just ridiculous. Your job record must be awful, or something, because in any expensive urban area, you should be able to find >$12/hr work.

>getting treated and working like a piece of property 12 hour days 6-7 days a week mandated OT
Lose the bad attitude, man. OT is great, especially for broke people. I work whatever I can get.

>8 hour shift effectively takes 9-10 hours, if you factor in driving, preparing for work, et cetera. We'll say 9.5 hours, and $10 for gasoline/car
> @ $12 per working hour, you make $96/day, or an effective pay rate of $9.05/hour, if we exclude the fixed cost of gasoline and car repair, and divide by the effective number of hours worked.

>12 hour shift effectively takes 13-14 hours, if you factor in driving, preparing for work, et cetera. We'll say 13.5 hours, and $10 for gasoline/car
> @ $12 per working hour, you make $144/day, or an effective pay rate of $9.92/hour, if we exclude the fixed cost of gasoline and car repair, and divide by the effective number of hours worked.

And it gets a lot better if you get overtime pay.

So you tell me to move and how shitty it is but yet say I have it good due to OT? Some people don't wanna slave thier limited time on this planet away like a piece of property. If you do more power to you. But I DONT! And should not have too!

No wife and kids.

Live in a van and be homeless then. Who gives a shit. The universe isn't going to give you money because you're too lazy to work for it.

Heating a van is no problem in the winter, Chinese diesel heaters can be had for 200 dollars that are efficient as fuck

Won't really have to worry about moisture with them either they're very dry heat

OT is good.

Your job opportunities (in your area) are bad. And your city is super expensive. Terrible combination.

>Some people don't wanna slave their limited time on this planet away like a piece of property.
You were talking about killing yourself in this post So, I doubt you really find your "limited time" particularly valuable.

You're probably just a spoiled American. Try working hard - there is a certain dignity to it. It's probably better than watching porn, or posting on Jow Forums, or whatever you do with your time.

What do you do for a living BASTED and ALL KNOWING Islamic man? What is your job that you take such fulfillment working at?

Don't let think it

You can buy a van for less than 3k that works perfectly fine

Build bed frame, you're set
Don't look at people's builds and compare them to what you have
Build on as you need to

Live on west coast? Insulation isn't that necessary
Theres a guy on YouTube forestyforest lives in a minivan in Ontario, which has shit winters and he does just fine with his heater that keeps the van 30c or something even when it's - 20 outside and no real insulation

I'm not Muslim. I don't know why you'd assume that - Muslims are not exactly known for their work ethic.

And I work in finance.

Sounds pretty good. I wonder how much their cost of living is per month or how someone so mobile makes an income to support that lifestyle. I figure having a wage slave job would be more reliable like the europoor above us was saying.

You work in finance and you claim I'm spoiled? HA! SHUT THE FUCK UP MOHAMED! I HAVE $4000 IN MY BANK ACCOUNT! AND YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO SAY I'M SPOILED?

Cost of living depends again on your needs
Some tells don't drink alcohol, some people don't drive hours every day, eating out more

But from what I gather most people spend less than 700 for everything food gas insurance phone etc

That sounds like a good deal. I'm genuinely considering this. I just need a way to keep the lifestyle going. To earn income on the road. Also a big ass battery storage and some solar panels would be nice so I could still have Internets and play some gamu.

I worked 70 hour weeks during my college summers. And I obviously work more than you now.

>I HAVE $4000 IN MY BANK ACCOUNT! AND YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO SAY I'M SPOILED?
I suspect that's why you have $4,000 in your bank account. Did you quit your job, or do something to get fired? Are you actively searching for a new job? Wanna know why you only have $4,000 in your bank account?

You don't seem to have any children to support. Or a wife. You're living life on easy mode. Buy you're still whining.

Also, you complaining that working overtime is "treating you like a slave", and then call black people "niggers", is just hilarious. The typical slave in the Confederate states had more personal dignity than you, dude.

Check Vancity vanlife on YouTube he's a boomer DJ but his videos are pretty informative
He barebones his build at the start
Doesn't have solar but instead has some batteries that are a few hundred
Has a roof vent but doesn't really advocate and feels it's a waste of money

My bed alone is probably worth more than that piece of shit. Fuck that

Its what I'd do if I had to, rather than renting.
Get a bike or scooter too so you can ride it to the shops/ short distances.
The main problem for me though would be getting good food with no kitchen

you live at mommy's house and post this on a phone/pc she bought you using her internet while eating her food. you are the ultimate bitch made faggot

Wrong Wrong and Wrong again buddy.

Im not going to reply to you again after this you limp wristed blue pilled Eurocuck. People are different. Your acceptance of wage slavery is pitiful. Your 70 hours a week and other bullshit made up stuff is completely different from me. I hope your wifes daughter is raped relentlessly by some big hairy and sweaty mudslime refugee and you end up taking care of her children as well just like you did her. Please do yourself a favor and find your self a good deal on a suicide license over there and use it to its fullest extent.

Why don't you just give us a general description of your life so far so there's no need for generalized assumptions and give you more specific advice?

Will do! Thanks for the advice!
