You string them along forever until they capitulate and settle for a much lower amount than the full debt. Save this strategy for large debts and you can probably slice it in half. These debt collection companies rarely last for long periods of time and eventually they're going to cut losses and get everything they can.

If you really don't give a fuck about being a good goy, keep telling collectors to fuck off until you get one who will play ball. Debt is sold off and they keep passing the buck down to cheaper and sleazier collection agencies. You want the middle ground between an actual debt collection agency that will keep it's doors open for years, and the other extreme, some Indian company who does illegal shit like pretending to be the FBI and preys on old ladies.
