my old coworker did exactly this except he had no college degree and no 401k plan. also he rented and had a spic wife with a son that wasn't his. whenever an assignment got too overwhelming he would get so nervous and have to pop a xanax, he was on prozac or ritalin or some shit too (don't remember name). i felt really bad for him. The amount of outsourcing these days of engineering work is insane. Only labor shortages that exist are in CS and thats because the completion rate of CS degrees is really low.

You can't really count on making a lot of money as an engineer out of college unless you go to a high cost of living city, and when we get into a recession, developers are the first to be fired, unless they work for large companies in critical roles.

You could probably cut that in half. Hit Costco and Walmart maybe once every two weeks, so about two hours per week for most of your shopping. General cleaning, laundry, etc, also maybe two hours a week. Buy a crockpot and you can make great meals, I'll take 30 minutes preparing a roast, let it stew 6-8 hrs while I do whatever else, then I have 3-4 days worth of food.
