My GF and I are thinking marriage sometime within the next 2-3 years. She wants to be a stay-at-home wife/mom in the future. This has been tradition for almost all women in mine, and her family so I am ok with it.
What I am concerned about is the spending that stay at home wives tend to do. I noticed, all of my friends who are married are fairly frugal and don't spend that much but their wife does. I've seen it happen to many people. The wife spends huge amounts of money on the home and furniture, continuously. A close friend of mine recently purchased a $6m home because of his wife. He complains that he's barely pushing through the mortgage payments and utilities/landscaping/repairs/cleaners. He told me if he was single he would be living like a king in his old studio condo.
I spoke to my GF about this and she agrees that we should stick to a budget. My friends are telling me that will change once I get married and prepare to buy a big house with luxurious furniture.
Why do you think this happens and how do you deal with it?
it really depends, if you are one of those biz retards that wants to eat rice and beans and live on 37$ per month then its gonna be a disaster. If you are reasonable with your budget and work hard to provide for your family then it will be fine.
