Was anyone here on Jow Forums invested during the massive bullrun of '17? What was your entry/exit, how did it feel psychologically, to wake up and see such massive movements?
1) Which coin were you invested in? 2) Entry/exits 3) Did it affect your relationships with friends, family, and sleep?
What happened to them, are they still holding? Did they blame you, or turn their backs on crypto?
Christopher Cook
shitcoins. buying high, selling low, the Jow Forums way
Luke Sanders
it was insane
I remember being at 5k, hitting 100k in a week, but then it all fell down like a house of cards kek
Jeremiah Wood
Invested all my savings into btc and bought 10 btc at september, go on a 3 month trip to LA (im eurofag) have the second worse experience in my life the first couple of weeks due to not knowing anyone there prior. Basically lose my mind but manage to find some friends. Come back in december and am now at 100k+. Its like it was a payoff for losing my mind
Ryder Young
I was here but I fucked up by only holding ETH and LINK. Invested maybe $30k and my peak was like $350k but like most people I fell for the hold meme and lost most of it. I've prob cashed out $50-70k in total and now thanks to LINK my folio is back up to $150k so it wasn't a complete justing. Sucks that I could be retired if I just chased pump and dump shitcoins like verge and deepbrain chain instead of holding coins with "fundamentals".
Jordan Wilson
Your open profit was at 100k? Did you tell others about your profits before you realized them, or did you want to keep it a surprise? I've always thought it would be amazing to keep it all a secret, and one day just drop it like a bomb.
Easton Stewart
it really fucked me up several of my alts went 100% in a day, and I was certain I was going to become a millionaire. Deep brain chain, raiblocks, etc.
I bought vechain a 1 dollar and held all the way up to 6 dollars, and all the way back down to 2 dollars. I knew I was going to be rich. It was obvious, I was going to become a millionaire that year, very soon. Just had to wait for it to bounce back.
my initial investment in 2017 was $20k, all told. About 50% was buying the top of other shitcoins assuming they would go 10x also. I had $120k in unrealized profit at one point.
I got rekt march and beyond, and sold in the red to the tune of a $5000 capital loss. Literally bought high, sold low. The Jow Forums way.
But at least I sold when I was down only 25% on my initial. It could have been a lot worse.
>relationships
I warned my dad not to buy the top but he did anyways. Then he blamed me because I was talking about crypto in october and novemeber. He is over it now, thankfully. My uncle laughed at me, because he bought bitcoin in 2015. The fucker. My sleep and general health became very, very poor around march. I got very sick and had trouble sleeping and maintaining regular friendships with people. It really fucked me up.
This year I bought in january/feb. BTC at 3450, ETH avg $120. I don't know if I bought the bottom of this market cycle, but I hope I did and it feels like I did. My hope is that my gains buffer is so large that I won't suffer a psychological meltdown like last time.
Jayden Peterson
bought in december and still went from 5k to 12k.
Xavier Jones
>go on a 3 month trip to LA (im eurofag)
Why the fuck would you do that?
Juan Hill
they didnt blame me but they will supposedly never get into crypto again kek ill sell them my bags at 100k
Carson Parker
I was here for the entire move up from 5k, but my peak was only $40k. I did hold Link all the way up to $1 and back down to 17 cents all the way to $4.5 and back down to $2 though.
Hudson Flores
based Chad checking in. started with 5k in 2017, at peak i was around 500k. Still in 6 figures.
Jeremiah Roberts
I turned $1k into $22k and never sold and lost it all
Fucking ELIX token
Lucas Barnes
btw, I do not think a 2017 style alt run will ever happen again for crypto. Perhaps with another asset class, someday a decade or more from now, but not with ERC20's / garbage coins with shitty websites.
There will be big gainers, but not an across the board retard parade how it happened in 2017, with exchanges being overloaded and halting registration, etc.
Nicholas Morales
Lack of credit card purchases is the real issue.
Cooper Brown
I had €1.8M in Feb 2018 Now: 28, NEET, live with my mom, €800 in Crypto
Jordan Clark
I had a similar experience when I was day trading oil futures on fairly high leverage.. +/- $3000 every day, drove me insane. I lost sleep, and was based in Seoul during that time. So to follow the markets live, I had to trade between 10:00 pm - 5:00 am, then barely get any sleep, and get up at 8:00 am to go to work, where I would monitor all my trades from my office. It was absolute hell. Took a capital loss as expected. Mental health and physical health was -100000% and I was getting reckless and stupid with my trades.
>be me >coke addict >spend £2k/month for coke >BTC = $400ish >buy coke out of dweb >FF some time >find local dealer and start buying coke from him >just leave my BTC in LocalBitcoins >know I have some amount >BTC hits $16k >check LB >3.6BTC balance >instant sell thanks coke addiction
Colton Rodriguez
ETH, BTC in march 2017 ETH was around 40$ and BTC 1,2k. Sold most of it in late July (2,5k?) and the rest literally a day after the high was in... sell price 13,3k One friend thinks i'm some kind of a genius (he's the biggest brainlet i know). Otherwise no , since i didn't invest a lot.
Lincoln Long
Did you keep your job at least? I got fired. It was a shit contracting job, but it was still embarrassing being terminated due to bad performance.
Also how much did you start with?
Cooper Gomez
I somehow didn't get fired, luckily. I had deep enough roots in this company that I was pretty untouchable on that front, unless I did something really really stupid at work.
For whatever reason, I can function on very very little sleep (3-5 hours), so even though I felt like I was going insane, and my body felt wrecked all the time, I could still do my work.
My brain literally felt like it was on fire though though during that time. I felt there was an oven inside my head, and my eyes were on fire all the time. Random chills and cold sweats for no reason, started biting my nails and eating habits went to shit (snacking on absolute junk, eating for dopamine hits, not due to hunger).
The silver lining though is that it has tempered my trading. I no longer flinch thousand dollar swings, and my hands have become utter steel.
This, went from 10-15k up to 120k, then I watched it bleed all the way down to 20k. Thankfully I had link so I’m BACK BEHBE!!!
Ethan Perez
Oh, and my starting capital was $12,000, eventually got it up to around $20,000, but maxed out margin on CFD's.. it was scary as shit.
Lincoln Howard
Made so much money, but then I decided to convert some ETH to BTC, and a significant portion of my portfolio too.
Decided to do it on BTC-e. Deposited the ETH, waited for confirmation, sold it for BTC, tried to withdraw, suddenly 500 server error. I literally deposited within minutes before it went down.
Even worse, I eventually got 60% back+tokens, and that made me trust them to make it back up to us and didn't take my money out. Literally burned twice on BTC-e.
Good thing I have some coins safe over on Cryptopia...
It's a surprise I'm still at the same amount of BTC I bought at the start, but makes me feel stupid after riding several pumps (ETH from 0.038 to 0.1, XRP from 1100 to 5400 sats, and KMD from 11000 sats to 20k sats) even though I sold early in most, I shouldn't be back at my starting BTC.
Now I have like 85% of it in cold storage and just trade with the remaining 15%
Nathaniel Foster
Gaining and losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in a day as a formerly broke new grad was not good for my mental health.
Checked. I got the shingles last December after the big crash (although I found it also somewhat entertaning). I had some stressful weeks besides that, but it was the icing on the cake.
Anyway, I'm sitting comfy with my stacks and I'm still adding as we are still in absolute buy territory. Got to my ATH in the beginning of the month, future's looking good. Big swings do not affect me anymore and I have a clear plan when and how much I want to cash out.
Make a plan as well (and fucking stick to it), in the Dopamine-rush of the bull you're not sane anymore
Ryan Carter
Incredible
Gabriel Thompson
I went from $500 to $25000 at peak to $2000 after the crash.
Holding is a meme. The hardest part isn't knowing when to buy, it's knowing when to let go.
Jace Morgan
after my kid born in may 2017 i found biz. immediately got 9k loan and dumped into bitcoin and straight into alts. only browsed boz. only invested in biz memes. turned 9k into 1.1 mil by january. couldnt cash out cause jews. lost essentially everything after about 100k of partying. biggest play was colx, ark, ven. id wake up at 4am to wait for a new design logo to be released and make 10k in seconds scalping. it was insane. story is a lot more intetesting, complex, and crazy but i cant be fucked writing. i know a lot of biz bros have something similar and God bless you all for giving me a taste of the good life for a brief moment.
Caleb Brooks
i cashed in 850 antshares for like $700 after buying them for $300
Isaac Morales
so how much do you have left now?
Oliver Walker
I slept like 1 one a day for November + December. It was amazing. Getting the same feels from ETHplode right now.
Daniel Morgan
after a year and a half of unemployment supporting a family of four ive got 25k usd about
Robert Jenkins
Kek, I got 150 of this shit
Cooper Sanders
50K to make it.
Ethan Miller
>started with $20k >had $500k at one point >didn't sell >at $40k now
Isaiah Taylor
Meh it was an air drop. I'd be happy with $20 out of it
Colton Allen
1) BTC, Lux, Bitquence, Electroneum, Skycoin, Ethereum, Monero 2) 5k, $1, 40c, 0.01c (ICO), $2, $150, $100 9k, $35, 0,12c, $40, $1000, $150 3) Yes, when I told my family they all came begging for money. Never affected my sleep. Didn't care a fucking shit about it.
Lucas Baker
Begging for money? How did they start that conversation with you? Were they shamelessly begging?
They suprised me with it. They kept nagging about crypto because they knew I had some and when I said that I did and already sold they just blurted out asking for loans. Caught me by suprise. >Were they shamelessly begging Without any sense of emberassement. No shame whatsoever. Like vultures trying to see if there's something to pick.
Chase Martin
Jeezus. See, I've thought about how I would break the news to people that I made money from crypto. There are some things I would love to be able to do if I made it, like pay off my mom's debt and make her comfortable for retirement, and create an education fund for my niece and nephew to go to university or college.
I feel like other people will come at me like you describe though. Part of me wants to take care of people in secret, and not disclose any earnings..
Samuel Peterson
who would willingly go to LA?
Gavin Rogers
Joined in May 2017. I was jumping around all the coins, hunting for low cap moonshots only. Some highlights:
Bought AntShares at the start of the hype and sold NEO one week later for 10x at around 8 usd(?) and never looked back.
Never added to my position after BTC rose to above 3k as I thought it was overpriced.
Missed the Icon ICO because I thought the 3 month waiting period from purchase to receiving tokens was too long (so I missed the 100x).
Bought Dent after some news for 250 dollars, no price action happened so I sold all I could a week later and was left with 50 dollars worth of Dent on the exchange because there simply wasn't any liquidity. Went back a few months later to find 2500 dollars worth of Dent.
Every single decent ICO could be flipped for 5x, 20-30x if you waited a bit.
Randomly found 120 PPT on my EtherDelta account that I'd tried to sell for 3 dollars a piece, to find they were now 60 dollars. Luckily EtherDelta was rather shit.
Sold 10k LINK for Bluzelle when they were about equal in price.
My biggest investment ever in an ICO was Persona.io for around 9k USD at the peak of the bull market, the liquidity is so low I'll probably never be able to sell those coins.
8k investment went up to around 140k and back down to around 15k at lowest as I didn't want to sell. It all made me numb to money, I'm just waiting to go back up until I'm financially free.
Xavier Sullivan
If you give money to your mom and nephew the rest of your family will want some to. Cause after all, you gave them some? So why not the rest? Just be blunt and say no. No point not helping your Mom or Nephew/niece out just because some people will get jealous.
Brayden Mitchell
Forgot to say I sold bitquence at $1,50. So just paste that number in there with the others.
Jeremiah White
Nah you wouldn't have taken profits on those and been completely fucked. You buy things with fundamentals so you don't have to worry about exiting your position in one market cycle.
Henry Reed
true >get a 4x and 5x in one month >didn't sell >now I'm at 1x and 2x
both went parabolic but I held all the way down anyway
Dylan Cook
I was able to turn $1.3k to 86.4k. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Neo, Qtum, Taas, DigixDao & OMG. Pretty much all the big Coins and majority of ICO were a hit for me. I sold out about 35% during at tops and must have spend about 17% the last 2 years. Left with little, though, but got pay my Car loan with my crypto holdings
Still looking for Gems, looking at Noia Network right now! And increasing my Bitcoin and Ethereum position
Why Noia > Low Marketcap. less than 1Million > Backed by Microsoft & Cisco > Just listed on Kucoin & will soon announce another Exchange Listing > Snapshot taking place on 12th August (1-to-1 Airdrop) > Promising to make the internet faster
Gonna double my BTC right before the bull market returns at the end of this year
Anthony Gonzalez
Turned 1k into 30k by investing in xvg. Praise McAfee.
The intensity of scams has gotten much worse on biz, Bazingacoin, brap, sky, hot, 0btc etc etc, browsing this place without a filter is impossible nowadays And at least scams back in 2017 were fun and not just some pajeets shilling a worthless token I mean thats kinda what happened but in a much funnier way
Talked to that user a few months ago, he's still so embarrassed he would hardly admit it was him, even anonymously. >"yeah I was a Jow Forums meme once, it still haunts me" >do tell >"it involved DGB, I really don't want to say more" >sharpie user? >user disappears
Anthony Flores
Rode req from 6 cents to $1.20 and back down to 3 cents
Ryder Johnson
KEK
For a few months he would appear pretty much anytime someone would post it, telling the people that its not funny and to stop post it
Mason Hernandez
Damn. Are you me?
Dylan Jackson
started in aug 2017..keep on putting fait every week...getting dumped on ...like i put 70k by aug end...by sept it was like 30k...that sucks...i keep trying with shitcoins.dont know what and why i am buying...but some how bull run started...i get in to icx for 6x..then some shitcoin did 10x ...then moved it to some req....my all time high was 1.2mill....tought of cashing out at 5 mill on Jan 2018. fuck fuck...then one day in Jan while talking to my wife she saw my portfolia ...she was amazed by looking at 1,2 mill...then next few day she saw it was 800k...then she insisted to take out my initial 75k...i did...then it become 300k by march...then i cought EOS...and did 3x...over all i cashed out 400k ...current i had only 40k in crypto...not a bad i think
Caleb Price
was up to $130k and cashed out $60k. then everything kept mooning still. what I had left when to >$100k again. I thought about cashing out more but wanted to hold to 1 million. that was the peak. when it started to crash I was going to try to wait for a dead cat bounce to sell and there was many but when they did came I thought it was a recovery and didn't sell. so I hodled the $100k down to $10k. I'm back up to $50k now. plus I used the $60k -taxes to buy a house. I still made out good despite retarded decisions but I fucked my chance to really action accumulate again.
Bentley Mitchell
a brief story
>nov 2016 am on Jow Forums laughing my fucking ass off post election >dec/jan comes around HWNDU raids happen and they are the funniest shit on the internet since 2006 youtube >Jow Forums gets super toxic, gay, normie invaded >browse biz. Start hearing about some shit called Ethereum >buy some at 20$ on jewbase >keep on buying. Never buy btc bc it's too "expensive" >start dabbling in altcoins and ICO's >portfolio went 30x in April/May thanks to golem, digibyte, rep, eth. Ltc, waves >lose it all in the first 2 weeks of june or july >sad_pepe.jpg >realize that altcoins are trash and ethereum isnt scaling after the Status ICO >realize BTC is KANG >liquidate IRA. Go all in on BTC between 2-3k >trade it up to 19k. Start cashing out and trading the fuck out of it >avoided the top in 2018 and cashed out. Lost a lot of money but didnt lose in 2018 >full time crypto ever since. I dont work. I play video games and trade btc whenever i want to
Biggest regret: being a digimarine and not selling for antshares because it had a dumb name and logo Biggest gain %: ETH Biggest gain $: BTC Worst Trade: buying waves and i kept on buying waves. Fuck sascha
Anyway user. 2017 was fuckin incredible here. Was the most fun i ever had on the internet since 2001 message boards/forums. The nostalgia is pic related.
>Decided to do it on BTC-e. >Deposited the ETH, waited for confirmation, sold it for BTC, tried to withdraw, suddenly 500 server error. >I literally deposited within minutes before it went down.
that's my worst fucking nightmare
Matthew Wilson
Stay in your ESL classes until you can form a coherent sentence, Gurdeep.
Ryder Mitchell
I took 0 of my gains. I was watching my portfolio go up thousands every hour. All I could think about was how if I just 10x from here I'll be set for life.
Michael Morris
Entered in September '17 with £100 in BTC, all I had at the time. Cashed out around the £800 mark within 8 weeks. Felt pretty insane at the time, to make a x8.
Heard about Chainlink here, realised what it was, and went all-in at like £0.20
A few weeks ago during the LINK x Google pump I was sitting on £40,000 and It felt fucking mad. Didn't sell a single LINK and will hold onto them until they are worthless, or until I can clear £1,000,000 and retire early. This is my lottery ticket that may or may not pay off - that's how I look at it.
I don't think we've seen anything yet. '17 will be a drop in the ocean over the coming years/decades.
Jayden Rogers
>Watching ETH since late 2016 >Can't buy now, I've already missed the boat >finally buy TRX sub 1 cent in November 2017 >Within days I'm sitting on 50,000 >hodl >hodl >hodl >It eats at me every day, the unrealised gains that I lost- no-one is ever the same after crypto
Jason Perry
I'll tell ya, I bought LINK in July of 2019 and by December 2021 no longer needed to work
Robert Jones
XBY?
Hunter Cox
My best move was putting $150 into Xtrabytes in May 2017 My worst move was holding it after getting a 160x
Kayden Howard
we're early adopters and statistically those early tend to end up doing really good long term. Im just annoyed I cant put as much money into this as I want.
Jordan Green
My best friend and I bought 500k xby each for like $1500. I turned that into about 10k and was like I’m done with this shady ass scam. My friend held all the way till it was worth $500k. He’s still holding today and it’s worth about 10k and probably couldn’t sell more than $1000 of it.
Brody Rodriguez
Bought my first full BTC at $1200. Thought I overpaid Then bought another at $2300 thought I overpaid. Eventually I have $30k invested and it dropped in half and I felt like an idiot and all my bosses and coworkers were laughing at me for doing something so stupid. I kept DCA’ing in because fuck it, it’s only money and we are all going to die and be forgotten anyway. At 16,500 /BTC - $17,000 I had $300k in my Blockfolio. I sold 6 BTC because my boomer coworkers were asking how to buy it, one guy wired 250k into coinbase to buy ETH at 1200 etc. I sold and then used those funds to pay taxes, refinance my home, and DCA’ed into bitcoin over the entire crypto winter.
Jace Green
Good timing. I still have my bag. It's just a little short of enough to buy a Lvl 3 static node. I've basically chalked it off as a loss. It'd be very surprising to see it return, but it's still chugging along so who knows
Jeremiah Sullivan
>one guy wired 250k into coinbase to buy ETH at 1200 Where is this man today?
Jaxson Stewart
I’d be really happy for you guys, but I fear it’s some guys that aren’t really scammers but don’t really know what they’re doing and feel like they’re in too deep to give up.
Tyler Turner
I agree that they didn't know what they were in for. A lot of their previous efforts either failed or hit the wall as they were trying to figure it all out and a lot of people were very angry with all the sudden changes. I gotta hand it to them for sticking with it even after it became one of the biggest jokes in the space and every single exchange they were on either got hacked or couldn't be bothered to update the wallet for a year. They still manage to retain a dedicated community of people and some decent talent. It was pretty cool to see CCR and Borzolam do that short video. youtube.com/watch?v=KFJtcL14n4U Borz seems like a decent guy and it's nice to see he's getting some help from Danny and Golden on the patents. I wish them all well
Sebastian Campbell
>bought 100 ETH 100 BTC @ 1$ >sold for 2x and never looked back
i came back at 2017 and realized i fucked up. after that i developed serious PTSD and other mental diseases and i've never been the same ever again.
