Italy’s Mafia Uses the Italian Lira as Its Own Parallel Currency

Explain this shit.

>A senior police officer revealed this week that Italian criminal organizations are still using the pre-euro Italian lira for illicit transactions.

>“We still discover big amounts of liras,” Giuseppe Arbore, a deputy in the Guardia di Finanza, which investigates financial crimes, said at a parliamentary hearing on Thursday. “Italian liras still constitute parts of illicit transactions.’’

>The lira ceased to be legal tender at the end of February 2002. It’s not clear how the former notes are ultimately exchanged for euros, if at all. Under current legislation, it’s not possible to convert lira, and the Bank of Italy years ago transferred the equivalent value of the currency still in circulation to the state, around 1.2 billion euros, according to the central bank’s website.

Italy will go back to the lira as soon they leave the Eurozone. The Mafia just has an edge over everybody with stacking Lira.

It obviously represents a share of some commodity that is too much of a hassle to move around, so they use these for convenience. I don't know how they would differentiate between these bills and the ones old people probably still have under their couch cushions though.

The officer says they only find very large amounts, so maybe this "mafia crypto" has a very high rate of inflation to prevent anybody from cheating them with pocket change?

It's very interesting, though.

it's like a mafia coupon, what's so hard to understand?

it's literally Tether: Mafia Edition.

Probably they had a big amount of hidden money they can't change at the time italy switched to euro, so they still use it now.

God fucking damn, that is suicide tier. Imagine never seeing color, imagine not even knowing what it is.

Dueteranopia is also really bad. You've only got 2 colors there. Imagine seeing grass as fucking yellow.

All mammals can see only one or too colors, they live fine.

There were those sunglasses to see colours, did you try?

Oh my goood people engaging in free comerce between individuals without the state getting an undeserved cut? Thats terrible, we need to stop this!
