Unironically, white frugality will give you the best benefit no matter what the conditions. Learn to live on very little money. Pic related is a really good start. Don't buy the book though, get it at the library. Your target should be spending 1000$/mo or less.

food rations - 100,000 calories in densely packed energy bars.

learn to conquer your conscience. The first few raids you do will be against unarmed individuals. You must convert the strong into workers, and extinguish the weak.
build a colony of workers.
The women may appear weak, but they are valuable when recruiting other raiders to join your colony. keep them in a secure area, and make sure they are well fed and as much as possible clean healthy.
The child bearing women are a premium. Keep them healthy at all costs if you want to rebuild a semblance of a society after the collapse.

There will be skirmishes between other clans. Be wise and only enter into battle when absolutely necessary.
Make allies but don't fully trust anyone not branded with your sigil
When the skirmishes die down you can begin to breed with the women
Establish a religion or use an already established religion to capture the spirits of your denizens. Make sure there is as little crime as possible within your borders.
After decades pass. When things start looking more normal. You can begin freeing members of your community into the world to venture out and begin life anew.

It's supposed to be significantly worse than 2008. Given how many assets are overvalued and what the big companies and governments around the world have been doing to prop up currencies and markets, when one starts to tumble then they'll all come down like an avalanche.
To be quit honest, I am concerned that it may get even worse than some economists are saying. I can see Great Depression levels or worse of global destruction. Want to know what to invest in? Good tools, guns, ammo, and information that will make you highly valuable even when no one else has money. Pay off debts, save, and be prepared to buy up property and goods at extremely discounted prices as people default on loans and sell their possessions to make ends meet

If something like this happens practical skills will be king. Being able to fix shit with limited resources, building things, etc. Any normal office worker will be pretty fucked. Even engineers would have a tough time since many of them do design only.
