If you a decade ago thought that social media was the future, you would probably have invested in Myspace. If you thought that laptops where the future, you would probably have invested in one of the several companies that are now bankrupt. Recognizing smart contracts as the "future" does not mean investing in chainlink is the future. Companies that do not existed to day, or that does not work with smarcontracts today, are most likely gonna dominate the smartcontract space in the future - very rarely is it the first in the space that ends up dominating the space.
There are a couple of reasons why Chainlink is most likely gonna fail, for starters the usage of their own token is weird, they could just use a stable coin to pay for the service. Secondly the tech behind their oracle service is fairly simple to replicate, meaning any random actor could make their own decentralized oracle service fairly quickly. What prevents a more reputable actor, like Microsoft or Google to be that actor, in particular because they themselves have a lot of data and would automatically outcompete chainlink or others if they only want to have their data run through their "own" oracles..
Wtf anons OP is right... no one has ever thought of anything like this before or pointed it out... OP are you a literal genius?

I used to think they'll naturally set themselves up as the people's oracle, if that makes any sense, to be used by defi platforms that desperately need trustless oracles.
But then they went and "partnered" with big corporations like any chink scam shitcoin quite sad, lost potential

Tech behind bitcoin is literally a copy and paste job but all the imitators are doing pretty poorly for themselves in comparison to BTC

The argument of a person that doesn't understand Chainlink at all. A reputable actor cannot replicate the network, that defeats the point of a network that creates reputation within itself. Nobody with a brain is selling
Matthew Jackson
i didn't mean that the "reputable actor" would be the one that determined the outcome of the smartcontract. The network would still be decentralized and consensus, the reputable actor would just be the surrounding and having their "reputation" spill over unto the decentralized network. Like if you imagine instead of going on to Chainlinks webpage or where ever you set up these smartcontract. Then you go to a google owned webpage and set up the smartcontract, which in peoples mind would make it more trustworthy because it is "google" and not this "crypto-thing".

You adapt to the market newfag, if something better than Chainlink comes along that tackles the doracle problem, I will jump over to the competition. But atm they're about to monopilze this middleware sector.
Charles Roberts
Chainlink doesn’t even exist. I can make my own Chainlink system in 2 weeks or less. The only thing they’ve done is pump a billion-supply 65% centralized funding token to dump on gullible tech illiterate morons like you. The aim of Chainlink is to LARP as a world changing company (that somehow didn’t secure a single dollar of actual investment money and had to rely on NEET ICO bux) while just pumping a coin and dumping out slowly then slipping away into irrelevance like NXT. Sergey Nazarov hasn’t done anything reputable in his life. He’s a nobody to everybody.

>they could just use a stable coin to pay for the service. Some asshat said that to me the other day, but I couldn't give him a coherent, concise rebuttal. Any suggestions?

But it got downgraded to ERC10 you kek, max you can hope for is ERC15 now
Aiden Edwards
Think about it, what is the purpose of the token? it is used to pay people to verify the smartcontract and for people to put up collatoral. That is it, there are not other function of the token, it is basically a place holder for money. You could use any other placeholder for money, a stable coin, Eth, even doge coin could do the trick.
Ethan Brooks
well, umm, i, err, the creator needed a way to get rich and defraud investors with things he got for free, if he had to buy a stable coin and give to investors he wouldn't make any money
You are welcome! that is what i love about Jow Forums, just regular Joe's looking out for one another in this crazy investment field which crypto is.
Bentley Bennett
No you can’t ETH itself isn’t an ERC standard asset To implement TransferAndCall you need the asset to be an ERC Therefore you can’t use ETH As for using a stable-coin, the only option right now is DAI. But then that would mean you need to change DAI’s ERC standing to another one to provide the same functionality the LINK token natively has Basically just fuck off we dealt with this FUD already, you fucks don’t realize we’ve seen it all. We hardly give a fuck anymore to spell it out for anyone since we’ve done it so many times. Fuck off
