why people prefer to say "i'm depressed" and not just "i'm sad"

sadness is temporary and more fleeting than depression. Several subsequent months or years of "sadness" constitutes depression. Many of us experience some sort of "social pathologies," that ultimately make it difficult to create and maintain meaningful relationships in our lives (and we didn't mesh with the importance of social media being a major part of "normal society" [probably because many of us were on various online communities before the proliferation of social media)].

There's really several reasons, but it mostly comes down to social difficulty I think (even though many of us can surely "socialize well," it isn't "real" or "meaningful" for us and is mostly a social mask we have to put on).

People are ashamed to say "i'm sad" and not to say "i'm depressed".
Sadness is common in mankind.
If you speak about depression, it's due to chemical factors too, and it's a different matter.

Sad is an internal state of mind. Being depressed comes from outside pressures. It generally comes from a lack of options in the environment, usually taken away by another moral agent through force. You'd be surprised how many very depressed kids are suddenly not as depressed anymore when they can get away from an abusive parent.

But today, the abusive parents are western governments.

It may sometimes be LARPs, but for some of us, it isn't. I don't know if I'm "rich," but I have over $500k in crypto, over $40k in precious metals, and just purchased 1/5 equity in my first income property. I'm financially comfortable compared to a lot of people my age that don't have trust funds and I've never had to have a "normal" job.

But I am also largely depressed, have had substance abuse issues for years, have had social difficulty, etc despite being an educated, well spoken, (i'd say 7.5/10 attractiveness), multi-talented, white man in USA.

It's hard to say "it is due to chemical factors," because no one is truly checking neurochemistry in relation to one's overall mental state. Psychiatrists just shoot in the dark and prescribe drugs and insist that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance. And even if there is a chemical imbalance, it is perhaps due to many personal/social (exogenous/epigenetic) factors.

I don't think it is a coincidence that the rise in all of this internet technology has corresponded with a major rise in "mental health" issues. I think it has taught us unnatural ways to exist in the world while providing unnatural releases of dopamine (that is possibly one of the most difficult-to-deal-with neurochemistry issues today).

In my mind no amount of money, drugs, women, vacations, or material goods will ever take me out of my own head, and even if I had access to all these things I would still have to live with myself every single day. Basically, nothing will save you from death. That being said, I’ve never been rich so who knows.

I can assure you that it's very different.
I got depression, and i can feel when i'm low in dopamine.
Obviously it's not very easy to understand, and doctors often prescribe random drugs because they suck.
Sadness can't be cured, it's necessary.
Depression sometimes goes out of the rails, and you live constantly low without reason, this has to be fixed somehow.
Depression depends on a lot of factors, and even a change in lifestile can help.

I'm sure some people got rich thanks to crypto here but:
1- the ones who did won't post here
2- the ones who did won't tell you that they made it

I’m worth 6 figures under 30 not rich but well off. I don’t doubt some anons have made bank but I’ve never seen anything convincing on this board that anyone has actually “made it” from crypto ie 2 mill+.
