I literally don't have a phone (I mean I do, I just don't use it) for this specific reason. I don't walk around with a phone. It just stays plugged in at home so I can check it like once a month if I feel like it.

I am a freelancer, I get "time off" when I don't have a contract going but this time off is essentially spent idly waiting for clients and worrying if I may actually run out of business because some pajeet decided he could do the same work for pennies. (there is a reason I get paid $$$ when I work, pajeets, it is called liability and quality)

This, today's job market is oversaturated with people just waiting to jump on your get your position, its illegal but most employers do it anyways you have to become indispensable on your company but if like me you are just another developer on a company that employs like 50 other devs your job is meaningless they migth as well just give you endless vacations and hire some indian or venezuelan dev who does the same job as you for less than half your wage.

i was paid by the hour, the managers were salaried and massively cucked - working 60 hour weeks on average, sometimes 80 hours during busy periods or when short staffed. retail lol... never again.

that depends, example i work for a company that makes websites for real state companies our PM got on vacations but didn't told our clients he wasn't going to be available during those days next week we have 4 angry clients calling management asking why he disn't answer their calls and emails websites needed to update data and no one was imformed about this, two clients got off and we barely managed to keep the other two, manager called the guy and told him "hey we have good news for you your vacations just got extended," if he had just checked his phone once he would have noticed his mistake and would still have his job, good riddance anyway i hated the fucker.

All he had to do was put up an out of office message. That's just poor management.

In the UK, I don't get asked to work on holidays, but I do get asked to cancel single days off in exchange for others when there are important things to get done. I also get phone calls and emails at all hours and on weekends. I can ignore emails easily enough, but some phone calls I have to take in order to get business done. That's just the way of the world. Millennials are too pampered.

I work 70-80 hours a week with no weekends off or vacation, as my company can't find a replacement who can do what I do.

I deliberately worked myself into this situation where I'm irreplaceable to use the leverage. It took 4 years but now I'm about to get a promotion, huge raise, and if not I will be leaving for a better company offering huge raise and international travel.

Depends on your field but if you're in a trade or any other job which values you for more than your ability to ring orders, sometimes foregoing freetime is beneficial.
