I think the guy who plays this game is kinda like us, as in that when we want to experience something we want to immersed in it.
Like for example the fallout series or post-apocalyptic genre in general, why would we ever want to experience that? its horrifying and surviving, but because there is an option to experience it through a game/simulation we dont have to worry about the consequences.
So in the same way the guy playing this simulation might want to experience those hardships and thus nobody but the small % of people playing this will "make it" and be rich.
