I don't know how long you've been invested in Link but this has been going on FOR AGES. We even had a marine who sacrificed his own linkies to run bots to battle other whale bots to push the price above $1.00. The reason this happens is because people who understand Link know it's going to make people billionaires but most people who trade don't research on the fundamentals of a project until it starts mooning. So whales trying to keep this project under the down low as long as possible.
I suspect OP is referring to staking, when that takes place, and they start using Chainlink for the derivatives market, the price is going to jump to match prices needed for collateral staking.
So rest assured user, you're in good hands. And I commend you for speaking out for Journalistic integrity.

The lack of consistency in the fud and continued progress of the project is what made me suspicious.The same fud seems to appear at sporadic times, sometimes when it is appropriate given recent news or lack there of and other times seemingly randomly. I still think these articles are extremely detrimental to the project and I hope the team responds appropriately. I have been invested since late 2017.

The problem with this FUD, and the people who buy into it, is that they don't separate the PND "news" from the actual project progress and utility.
Chainlink is still a big deal. Whether some whales were able to manipulate the price for profit has nothing to do with the project. They're delivering on their goals. They're creating an oracle network.
Fucking BTC has also been manipulated and seen its price driven up and down by whales. The fact that some shills drove the price around on message boards doesn't mean the project won't still succeed.
I mean, they might have to deal with the SEC though...
