The fact that Chainlink was loved on Jow Forums since 2017, and had persistent memes made about it, was the main reason I kept believing in it. The combined autism of this board digging up breadcrumbs showed me that it would reach a new ATH, unlike almost every other alt.
Who cared about LINK more than Jow Forums over the last two years? Reddit was shitting on it because of the botched ICO. Which was botched because we bought too much in the presale pools and Sergey wasn't prepared for that.

In the early days there was delusional shilling and delusional fud in equal amounts.

These days, the shilling is based on actual merit (mainnet, major entities like Google Cloud promoting CL, Mixicles, threshold sigs, ...) while the fud is dumber and more prevalent than ever.
Jow Forums is a shitshow, and the fucking telegram is a better place to discuss it than here.

Buddy, I was scouring Jow Forums for pools back then, and there were maybe (MAYBE) a dozen.
A bunch of which were actual scams btw.

The biggest activity happened during the ICO (which was MUCH smaller than anticipated), which is when Jow Forums was buzzing with people posting their block numbers, guessing where the cut-off was.

The presale was meant to be private. But after people here found out about it, presale adresses were shared around on Jow Forums. We confirmed in the presale slack that these presale addresses could be used as pools (multiple people sending to the same address and getting proportional amounts of LINK back). But it wasn't easy to control who sent what, so people were sending amounts over the limits to the pools. The presale generated way more funds than intended, leaving only a small amount to be raised during the ICO. So the ICO ended almost instantly - making redditors seethe about not getting in.

There were a bunch of threads, and each presale link could take a lot of ETH. I should have said it wasn't just the pools, but also people from Jow Forums filling their own presale addresses without sharing (I filled one myself). Also just the attention brought to it from here helped put it over the intended amount.

Another key factor to this is that they increased the amount of LINK per ETH invested because the price of ETH increased after the pre-ICO was over. They didn't just leave the price locked like every other scammy ICO.
I remember people that didn't get in being absolutely pissed about this.
